Booking through Thursday - Reading Choices

This week's question...

Have your reading choices changed over the years? Or pretty much stayed the same? (And yes, from childhood to adulthood we usually read different things, but some people stick to basically the same kind of book their entire lives, so…)

My answer...

My reading choices have definitely changed over the years. In my teens through young adult age - I loved the Harlequin Romances...the sweet ones. Then there was a time I liked anything paranormal from time travel to werewolves to vampires. Now, I'm more into romantic suspense and cozy mysteries. I can't get enough of them.

I do read an occasional Harlequin Romance if it's by an author I like or if I just want a quick read, but Harlequin and Silhouette have so many series out there that I can get my romantic suspense through their Harlequin Intrigue and Silhouette Romantic Suspense series.

I'll also read an occasional paranormal, but it's usually one that recommended to me. In the old days, I'd read everything printed but of course there were less choices then. Maybe now I'm overwhelmed with all the choices that are available. Years ago, they were more unique.

These days, I prefer books that are more spicy or have more of a plot to them.

  1. I've noticed changes I've made, but I like to think I improved, even if I haven't changed all that much.

  2. I would not say changed so much as expanded and that expansion means I don't get to many of my earlier choices as much I did.

  5. Love the kitty pic! Things would be pretty stale if we didn't grow in our reading choices. I'm glad to see that you are now looking for more of a plot too. There's no such thing as too many cozies!
Have a great week, Yvonne, and happy reading.

  6. My choices have changed a bit I think over the years. I just finished reading a great book, The Passage by Justin Cronin.

  8. I read a LOT less fantasy. I've replaced almost all fantasy with urban fantasy (more contemporary settings, more werewolves, different themes than fantasy). I used to read a broader range of mystery--anything from thriller to cozy. Now I read mainly cozy. Oh, once in a while I'll grab something from the middle of the range of mystery books, but mostly I'm cozy.

    Very good question!

  9. I enjoyed reading your answers, Yvonne. I think our tastes do change over the years.

I read a wider varieties of genres now compared to what I used to. And I am more open to new genres as well. I now read Japanese literature, as a result of joining Bellezza's JLC-3 and JLC-4 challenges. :)
