Synopsis from Goodreads:

One summer can change everything.

Brooklyn-based Hannah is a bestselling author struggling to write her second book after personal losses. Her older sister, Sara, still lives in Chatham, Cape Cod, where they grew up, and is married with four children. Once a dedicated librarian, Sara dreams of reviving her love affair with literature, but instead, she is stuck with too many family responsibilities and a fizzling marriage.

When Hannah gets the chance to retreat to her aunt's oceanfront house in Chatham for the summer, it seems like just the thing to get her creative juices flowing. And she’ll be able to spend more time with Sara, who is eager to find her way back into the workforce, to do something rewarding and book-related. The pair will spend the summer making friends, rekindling romance― especially Spencer, an old acquaintance from high school-turned very hot grump― and opening themselves up to the magic of books and the beach.

Perfect for fans of Mary Kay Andrews, Susan Mallery and Brenda Novak, The Seaside Sisters will delight and charm you as easily as an ocean breeze.

My Review

Author Hannah Brewster is having a hard time writing her second novel.  The first is a huge success, but, after dealing with a personal loss, she is suffering from writer’s block.  Although she loves her home in Brooklyn, New York, she realizes a change in scenary might jump start her writing.  She heads to her home town of Chatham, Cape Cod where her sister and aunt still reside.  Her aunt is more than happy for her to spend a few weeks at her home.

Hannah falls right into life in Chatham.  Besides giving her more time to be with family, she’s making new friends and she’s feeling carefree.  Every morning she heads to the local coffee shop with her laptop and gets in a few hours of writing.  It’s all working out beautifully.

She meets up with an old friend, Spencer, and their relationship takes off in ways they hadn’t anticipated.  As the end of summer approaches, Hannah is prepared to return to Brooklyn, but is her heart really in it?

This is the perfect start of beach read season for me.  The author immediately transported me to Cape Cod.  I felt like I was right by Hannah’s side and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Last year at this time, I read another book by this author titled The Bookshop By the Bay.  I enjoyed that one and I feel the same way about this one.  There were a couple of characters from that book that appeared in this one, but each book is a standalone.  There are no carryover type of situations or anything like that.

This story is filled with emotions, family relationships and realistic characters.    This book is a real “slice of life” giving readers true to life situations.  There’s a sweet romance, too.  It’s a “feel good” type of read.  I’ll be looking for more by this author.
