About the Book
Synopsis from Goodreads:
Can these exes rekindle their love this Hanukkah?
Evelyn Schwartz has the perfect Hanukkah planned: eight jam-packed days producing the live-action televised musical of A Christmas Carol. Who needs family when you’ve got long hours, impossible deadlines, and your dream job? That is, until an accident on set lands her in the medical bay with one of her chronic migraines, and she’s shocked to find her ex-husband, David Adler, filling in for the usual studio doctor.
It’s been two years since David walked away from Evelyn and their life in Manhattan, and his ex-wife is still the same workaholic who puts her career before everything else—especially her health. But when Evelyn begins hallucinating “ghosts” tied to her past heartbreaks, and every single one leads to David, he finds himself spending much more time with her than he anticipated. And denying the still-smoldering chemistry between them becomes impossible.
As Evelyn revisits her ghosts of Hanukkah past, she and David both begin to wonder if they can have a Hanukkah future. But with a high-stakes production ramping up the pressure on Evelyn, and troublesome spirits forcing them both to confront their most difficult shared memories, it might just take a Hanukkah miracle for these two exes to light the flame on their second-chance at love.
My Review
For most people, Evelyn Schwartz’s idea for a fun-filled happy Hanukkah would be extremely stressful. Evelyn strives on it. She’s the producer of a live musical performance of A Christmas Carol. She must deal with a demanding boss, deadlines, a temperamental superstar and her chronic migraines. When an accident on set lands her in medical, she finds her ex-husband is the temporary physician.
Dr. David Adler walked away from his wife two years ago, but his ex-wife is still the same workaholic that she’s always been. After her on set accident, she refuses to go to the hospital and wants to just keep working. David is determined to keep watch over her as much as possible.
Evelyn begins to have hallucinations. She’s visited every night of Hanukkah by ghosts reminding her of eight heartbreaks she has gone through. Are they hallucinations or is she suffering from a physical condition after her accident? David won’t leave her side until he figures it out.
The Eight Heartbreaks of Hanukkah is a poignant, touching, and inspirational tale of two heartbroken, tortured soles trying to find answers and move on with their lives. This is an emotional second-chance-at- love story. It deals with many difficult, realistic issues such as disabilities and grief.
The chemistry between Evelyn and David sizzles, but their past is like a dark cloud hanging over their heads. The supporting cast is a mixture of realistic characters and a couple over-the-top ones. Mix them altogether with an emotional story and you have hours of a heartwarming story that will bring both tears and smiles to your face.
I’ve read other books by this author and have enjoyed them all. This one is unique as it is a Hanukkah story set with A Christmas Carol background. It's a different type of re-telling.
I’m looking forward to her next release.
