Booking Through Thursday

This week's question:

What, if any, memorable or special book have you ever gotten as a present? Birthday or otherwise. What made it so notable? The person who gave it? The book itself? The “gift aura?”

My answer:

As much of a bookaholic that I am, I've never received a book as a present. However, I have received gift cards to Borders. I admit, I practically get giddy when I get one of those, my eyes light up and then it's get out of my way while I spend hours in the store. LOL I think gift cards are the best thing invented, so the person can choose whatever they'd like.

Tuesday Thingers

Today's question:

Work multiples. Do you own multiple copies of any books? Which ones? Why? Can you share your list?

My Answer:

I try not to buy multiple copies. I have too many books as it is and the last thing I need is to spend money on doubles. Sometimes I make a mistake (rare, but it does happen - LOL), but I usually either return them or trade them.

Sunday, November 2, 2008

Another Sunday is upon us and we are almost at Thanksgiving! Time is really flying.

I only finished one book this week, Hallowe’en Husbands. It’s an anthology with stories by Lisa Plumley, Denise Lynn and Christine Merrill. Check out my review here. It was cute and a fun holiday read. It turned out to be the only Halloween book I read this year. I always have the best of intentions to read many books, but I’m a slow reader and it never works out that way.

I started The Tale of Hill Top Farm by Susan Wittig Albert. We’re reading this for my Shelfari Cats and Cozy Mystery group. I’m, also, listening to another audio book. It’s the second book of Meg Cabot’s Queen of Babble series. This one is Queen of Babble In The Big City. It starts out really cute.

Then I have 5 books scheduled to be reviewed. Yikes! They all look like good reads, though.

This fall is turning out to be very nice, as far as the weather goes. The colors are so pretty and we are having temperatures in the 60’s. Very nice!

Don't forget to sign up for my free Hatchette Bookgiveaway. Click here to see what it's all about!

Hope you all have a great week!

Hallowe’en Husbands, Harlequin Historical Anthology

Authors: Lisa Plumley, Denise Lynn and Christine Merrill

Genre: Romance

I was immediately attracted to this book because of the Halloween theme. It looked to be a fun read and that’s how it turned out.

The first story was by Lisa Plumley. I always enjoy Lisa’s historical westerns. This was a cute one. “Marriage at Morrow Creek” is a continuation of her series, Morrow Creek Matchmakers. You don’t have to read the previous books to enjoy this one.

Rose Tillson is secretly in love with Will Gavigan. He’s a man who works for her father and has yet to notice Rose’s feelings. With a little magic from a matchmaker, this All Hallow’s Eve may be a very special one for Rose.

The middle story was a medieval, a genre that I rarely read, but this one I absolutely loved. It’s by Denise Lynn, an author I will look for in the future and try to get some of her backlist.

In “Wedding at Warehaven”, Brigit is accused of being a witch. When she participates in a festivity in Warehaven to find her ‘true love’, Randall FitzHenry is convinced that Brigit is indeed a witch and must be stopped. Especially since he is the one who appeared to be her ‘true love’. The only way out is for her to marry that night. It is the last thing Brigit expected.

Christine Merrill finishes the anthology with a Regency, “Master of Penlowen”. Arabella Scott’s carriage is attacked by robbers, but thankfully she is saved by a handsome highwayman. He brings her to his dark home, where nobody else resides. She begins to wonder if she really is safer with the highwayman or would she have been better off with the robbers. This is a romance mixed with mystery and romance. Just enough of each to make for a scary read this Halloween.

I love reading anthologies that are dedicated to holidays and this was a cute one. I enjoyed it and discovered two authors I wasn’t previously familiar with. I’ll be on the look out for more books by all three authors.
