Thaao Penghlis is a Greek actor who was raised in Australia. This is the story of his rise to fame and his journey to faraway places. I fell in love with his performances as the evil Andre DiMera and charming Tony DiMera on Days of Our Lives, as well as his dastardly role of Victor Cassidine on General Hospital (a role he recently revived). When I heard he wrote a book detailing his travel experiences, I had to read it, but this book is much more than about his travels. It’s a journey into his life.

Readers will hear about his family and his poignant decision to leave home and travel to the United States to become an actor. The struggles he went through as an up and coming actor and the disappointments he went through when he was written out of his TV roles. He is very open about these things and it’s refreshing to read his honest portrayal of what he felt.

He traveled to so many exotic lands that most of us only dream about visiting. He takes us to such places as Turkey, Egypt, Israel, Greece, Syria and so much more. Mr. Penghlis has also met so many wonderful people – Claudette Colbert, Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Robert Redford. We hear about these experiences as well.

Through the author’s words, he paints such a vivid picture that I felt as if I had traveled to those places and met those people too. He is a master storyteller and draws you into his world. The author shares photos from his personal collection. This was a quick read for me. I couldn’t put this book down. I wanted more and I do hope there is another book at some point in the future. I could read these stories all day.
