The Weekend Review - August 3rd-5th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to Stacking the Shelves which is hosted by Reading Reality.

Hi Everyone!

Basically it was a quiet week for me.  I'm not sure if next week will be so quiet.  They are talking about tropical storms and hurricanes.  From the maps I've seen, it doesn't look like we should get anything more than a lot of rain but we have tropical storm and flooding alerts.  All I care about is not losing power.

My prayers to all who are in the path of storms.  I hope the storms just go away.

I mentioned getting a Kindle Scribe last week.  I've been using it more this week since my new cover arrived.  This is my new cover, and I love it...

The Scribe is 10 inches and feels more like I'm holding a hardcover book.  It's a bit heavier than my smaller 6.8 inch Paperwhite.  I really enjoy reading from a larger screen.  I don't think I'll want to carry it around, though.  I think I'll use my Paperwhite for when I go places.  The good thing is, as long as the Wifi is on, it remembers where you are up to on each reader, and you don't lose your place if you switch from one to the other.

Another fun feature - the notebooks.  I've already made several.  One is a list of books I want to read, and another is notes about my current read.  That will help me for when I write my reviews.  I should always have been taking notes, but I didn't.  Now, I'm trying it with the Scribe and it's working out well.  I still have to get to know my new e-reader better, but so far so good.

I finished two books this week.  Hopefully I will do better next week.

As far as what I'm watching, I finished the latest season of Criminal Minds.  Now, I have to finish Evil.  I think that's it until the new Star Trek arrives.

Other than that, not too much is going on here.  I hope you all have a great week!

I finished reading ...

This is my August list of books.  I'm planning on adding in books that I missed in July.  We'll see how it goes.  The list doesn't seem so overwhelming if I don't list all the July books I missed.  I'll just fill them in when I can and probably read other books as well.

Here is this week's Kindle freebie haul.  They were freebies when I got them, I don't know if they still are. Always make sure to check they are still free before buying. The prices change quickly.

  1. I was surprised how much I enjoyed having an ereader with a bigger screen. I really like small screens too (I have a Boox Palma), but it seems like actually a 6" screen one is the worst of both worlds for me, and a 7" (the Boox Leaf2) was surprisingly nice, I thought I might not like it. I'll probably stick with Boox, but I'm strongly considering their equivalent of the Scribe. It's good to hear someone else's experience around that!

Good luck with your August reading!

    1. I wasn't sure I'd like a 10 inch screen. I thought it might be too big for reading, but it's not. At least not for me. I can't even go back to a 6" screen anymore. Even after using a 7" screen, the 6" screen seemed too tiny to me. My 7" reader will be my traveling, I think.

Thanks for visiting and have a great week!

    1. The scribe was out of my price range too. I bought it on sale during the Prime Day sale plus I traded in an older Kindle and got 20% off. Still a bit pricey, but better than the original price.

Thanks, I'm hoping the storm stays away from here but you never know. Right now, it's just windy.

Thanks for visiting and have a great week!

  4. I hope the weather clears up. It is so scary. We are lucky where I am in the UK.

    I love that cover!

    Have a great weekend!

  6. I'm glad you're enjoying your Scribe. I love the cover your chose. After reading your post last week about the Scribe, I went to take a look at it on Amazon. It does look really cool. I don't think I'd like the size, though. I'm glad you also have a Paperwhite so you can carry something smaller around with you.

I hope you have a great week and I hope the paths of the storms don't stray and come your way.

    1. I wasn't sure about the size of the Scribe either. I figured I could return it if I didn't like it, but it's been good. I had to make a quick decision since the sale was ending. I just would rather travel with a smaller Paperwhite.

Thanks for visiting. So far, it's still just very windy here.

  10. Thank you for sharing information about the Scribe. I love to mark passage and take notes, and the Scribe seems to be perfect for that. I am not sure if I would use it as much as I use my small Kindle though if it is rather heavy.

I hope all the hurricanes peter out before they strike land for the rest of this hurricane season!

    1. That's the only downside with the Scribe. It is definitely heavier. That's why I think I'll just use it at home and use my smaller one for traveling.

These hurricanes are scary. I don't think we are in the path of this one, though. I think we are just getting alot of wind.

      Thanks for visiting my blog.

    1. We're having heavy rain right now, but it's late and I'm not going anywhere anyway :) The Scribe is a nice device. I just need to get used to the larger size and it's heavier than my smaller e-reader, but I do like it.
Thanks for visiting and have a great week!

  15. Glad to find out about the Scribe. Right now I use the notes mode on my paperwhite ereader and highlight passages instead of taking notes. Enjoy the new reader.

I hope the storms go easy on everyone in their paths. We're dealing with fires on the West Coast. It always seems like it's something somewhere, doesn't it?

    1. The Scribe is a nice device. I just have to get used to the bigger size, but I do alternate between the larger Scribe and smaller e-readers.

We lucked out as far as the storms go. Now it's just hot which is typical for Florida.
