Synopsis from Goodreads:

Hosting a cookbook party wasn't supposed to end in death. Now, Emily Parker must uncover the truth before the killer strikes again.

Emily Parker runs Spine & Vine, a cozy Victorian bookstore. Her Maine Coon cat, Fitzgerald, watches over it all. Especially when a notorious food critic, Marcus Sterling, drops dead at her cookbook launch party.

Emily must solve the case. Her skills in crafting and book preservation are key. With her keen eye for detail and Fitzgerald's feline intuition, she starts piecing together the clues everyone else overlooked.

Sterling’s scathing review ruined Sarah Chen's herbal business. Pete, the cafĂ© owner next door, got a critical review, too.

Then a chilling message is left at Spine & Stop sleuthing, or you'll be the next book in the grave. Emily knows this is no idle threat.

Time is running out, and the killer is getting bolder. Emily must use every trick in her book-binding toolkit to solve the case before the final chapter is written... for her and her kitty.

My Review

Emily Parker is a new amateur sleuth in town and has her beautiful Maine Coon cat, Fitzgerald, to help her solve mysteries.  Emily owns the Spine & Vine, which is a Victorian bookstore.  They are hosting a cookbook party when the local food critic, Marcus Sterling, suddenly dies.

It’s up to Emily to figure out what happened since her shop could now be called a crime scene.  Fitzgerald is on the scene to assist by knocking down books that could be related to Sterling’s death.  One thing Emily knows for sure is that Sterling collected many enemies with his scathing reviews.  He more than ruined several businesses along the way.

When Emily receives a threat, she knows she can’t stop now.  She must find a killer.

This is a short cozy mystery.  Of course, the beautiful cat on the cover drew me right in.  For me this is a one-sitting book, and I was totally engrossed in figuring out “whodunit”.  There were several possibilities, and I guessed wrong.  This is a great start to a new cozy mystery series.  I’ll be keeping my eye open for the next one.
