About the Book
Synopsis from Goodreads:
Welcome to the Time Hop Coffee Shop, where wishes can come true…
Greta Perks was once the shining star of the iconic Maple Gold coffee commercials, the quintessential TV wife and mum. Now, fame has faded, her marriage is unraveling, her teenage daughter is distant and Greta’s once-glittering career feels like a long-lost memory.
When Greta stumbles upon a mysterious coffee shop, serving a brew like no other, she wishes for the perfect life of those past Maple Gold commercials. Next thing she knows, Greta wakes in the picture-perfect town of Mapleville, where the sun always shines, and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and second chances fill the air. Given the opportunity to step into the life she’s dreamed of, Greta is determined to rewrite her own script. But can life ever be like a coffee commercial? And what will happen when Greta has to choose—between perfection and real life, with no turning back?
My Review
There was a time when life had been perfect for Greta Parks. She and her family starred in the popular Maple Gold coffee commercials and their popularity skyrocketed. Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever and neither does fame.
Greta’s career crashes and her agent can’t get her another acting job. Her marriage is on the rocks and her teenage daughter is pulling away from her. Greta would give anything to return to those happier times.
She finds a mysterious coffee shop offering her a special brew. After drinking the coffee, Greta wakes up in Mapleville - the perfect town where her life is exactly the way she wants it. Her fame is back in full force, her marriage is beautiful and even the relationship with her daughter is blossoming.
Greta has everything she ever wanted, but can it last forever? She has to make a decision. Does she stay or return to her unhappy real life?
This is a unique take on time travel. My heart went out to Greta whose whole life seemed to be falling apart. An aging actress unable to get any good acting roles while her husband doesn’t seem to be hurting for jobs. She loses her husband, and her teenage daughter wants nothing to do with her. Talk about being alone in the world, Greta sure is.
I practically devoured this book. I had to know what was going on and how it would all work out. Given the choice of the perfect life or a lonely real life is not as easy a decision as it might appear to be. It felt like a cross between a Twilight Zone episode and a fairy tale.
I’ve only read one other book by this author, which I enjoyed very much. After reading this one, I’ll continue to look for books by Phaedra Patrick.
