Synopsis from Goodreads:

Twelve stories. Twelve months. Once chance to heal her heart...

When Tilly Nightingale receives a call telling her there’s a birthday gift from her fiancĂ© waiting for her at her local bookshop, it couldn’t come as more of a shock. Partly because she can’t remember the last time she read a book for pleasure. Mainly because Joe died five months ago…

The gift is simple – twelve carefully-chosen books from Joe, one for each month, to help her turn the page on her first year without him.

Tilly sets out on a series of reading-inspired adventures that take her around the world. But as she begins to vlog her journey, her story becomes more than her own. With help from Alfie, the bookshop owner, her budding new following and her friends and family, can Tilly’s year of books show her how to love again?

My Review

Tilly Nightingale is trying to go on with her life after the untimely death of her husband, Joe. It hasn’t been easy these past several months.  When Tilly receives a call from a local independent bookstore informing her that Joe left her a birthday present, Tilly doesn’t know what to think.

She heads to the bookstore where she meets the store’s owner Alfie.  She learns that the gift is a year’s worth of books.  One book per month and she must go to the bookstore each month to get it.  Since Joe’s death, Tilly has stopped reading for pleasure.  So, this isn’t as easy as it might sound, but Alfie helps to see her through this.

Each book has a different meaning and opens up new experiences for Tilly.  She meets new people and sees new places.

This is a beautifully written book.  It’s filled with many different emotions from sad to uplifting. It’s grabs your heart and doesn’t let it go.  It’s a poignant, heartwarming story filled with loving characters. My tears were flowing by the time I got to the end.  We’re only in February, but it’s already marked as one of my top reads.  It’s a book that sticks with you long after you finish it.
