My Review
In 1968, astronaut Joe Mitchell leads a team on a space mission. As the launch begins, Americans are excited with hope and anticipation of going to the moon. Then, despair hits. Joe’s spacecraft has lost contact and he, along with his crew, are presumed dead.
Joe’s wife, Vivian, always feared something like this would happen. All of her darkest fears have come true. She is filled with grief. To add to her anguish, they are claiming operator error. She’s not about to let that stand. Vivian will not let them blame Joe for this tragedy.
As the investigation continues, Vivian relives their poignant romance. She remembers the good times, along with the bad. In the end, their love always won. They are true soulmates. Even now, she is hopeful that Joe will somehow return to her.
Talk about a story that tugs on your heartstrings. This one definitely does that. A real tearjerker. It’s one of those stories that lasts with you long after the last page is turned. These characters come alive and are people you can truly care about.
It’s a love story set in one of my favorite time periods - the 1960’s. The author totally transported me back to those days. It’s both a heartbreaking and moving story. It tears your heart in two.
I don’t want to give too much away, but this is a story well worth reading and savoring. I’ve been wanting to read this author’s books for the longest time and I’m so happy I started with this one. I truly enjoy her writing style and will be going through her backlist. I see many exciting hours of reading in my future.
