Dino Vicelli Private Eye: In A World of Evils By Lori Weiner

Genre: Mystery, Fantasy

This story takes readers on a fun adventure to New York City, but not the New York City we all know. This one is an alternate-reality version where the dogs are running the show.

Dino Vicelli is an Italian greyhound, cigar-smoking private investigator who is hired for, what appears to be, a routine missing spouse case. Dino quickly learns that not everything is as it seems and there’s nothing routine about this case.

When Dino continually ends up at the scene of many crimes, including several murders, he realizes his own life could be in danger. A beautiful Afghan dog, Jezebel, shows up on his doorstep claiming to be able to help him, his heart wants to trust her but his brain is saying something entirely.

Lori Weiner creates a cute story for both adults and young adults. It’s a quirky book and a quick read that takes so many twists and turns you will feel like you are on a rollercoaster. I do hope this will be the first of many more Dino Vicelli books.

The Tail of the Tip-Off by Rita Mae Brown

Genre: Mystery

It’s winter time in Crozet, Virginia and the town is caught up in cheering the local women’s basketball team. Following one exciting game, H.H. Donaldson, a local building contractor, suddenly dies. At first it’s believed to be a heart attack, but it doesn’t take long before the police realize it was a cold blooded murder.

Harry Haristeen is determined to find the murderer. Her trio of furry best friends, kitties Mrs. Murphy and Pewter, plus Harry’s faithful corgi, Tucker are more than happy to protect their human “mom”. When another body turns up dead, the animals vow not to let the same thing happen to their mother.

I always like to revisit this series led by the tiger kitty Mrs. Murphy. This is a fast-paced mystery, although the outcome wasn’t really all that surprising, it was a good read. The characters are all well developed with most of them reappearing in each book. It’s always fun to check in on characters we’ve grown to love over the years. This wasn’t my favorite of the series, but it was a good one.

The Baby Album by Roz Denny Fox

Harlequin Super Romance #1586

Life didn’t go exactly as Casey Sinclair planned. She never expected her husband to leave her once she became pregnant. However, that’s exactly what he did leaving her without any money to care for their child or support herself. Her problems seem to improve when she gets a position as a photographer, but her boss adds some complications of his own to the situation.

Wyatt Keene had a very successful photography business until his partner and wife died, along with their unborn child. Things were never the same for Wyatt, but a year later he decides it’s time to get back into the swing of things. He hires Casey, but she reminds him very much of his late wife.

Wyatt and Casey grow close, but Casey keeps her unborn child a secret. She’s scared it will remind Wyatt too much of the wife and child he lost a year ago. Each day becomes more difficult for Casey to keep her pregnancy a secret. She is filled with fear that Wyatt will be angry at this deception and she might lose everything that she is starting to love.

This is a nice romance, but I find it harder and harder to read stories of secret babies. Sometimes it’s just easier to tell the truth, but I guess then there wouldn’t be a story. Casey and Wyatt were both characters I could sympathize with, but I do wish she would have been a bit more honest.

Musing Mondays - How many books do you read at a time?

If you'd like to join in on Musing Mondays, just click the button above.

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about a random book.

I’ve seen several bloggers mention reading multiple books this week. Do you frequently read more than one book at a time? Do you try to limit this to a certain number? Do you have different books for different purposes/topics?

Basically, I can only read one book at a time. I get confused easily. LOL The only time I read more than one is if I'm also listening to an audio book. Those I only listen to on my way to and from work. So, I could be listening to a book, but reading a print book at home.

Although, there have also been times when I'd read two different genres at once. I can never ever read two of the same genres at once, but I've read a fiction and a non-fiction at the same time.

Overall, I prefer one book at a time. I don't think I have the concentration level to do more than that. How about you?
