Top Ten Tuesday - June 30th

It's Top Ten Tuesday again.   It's hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This week's topic is...

Our Top Ten Favorite Books of 2015, so far...

I pulled out my trusty little notebook to see what I've read this year, so far.  Yes...I still have a notebook that I actually write in...not on a computer. These are my top ten for the first half of the year, listed in the order I read them, and yes, they are all cozy mysteries...I'm so predictable :)

1.  Fry Another Day by J.J. Cook - I've let it be known that this husband and wife team has become my favorite cozy authors.  This is the second book in their "Biscuit Bowl" mysteries.  Fry Another Day took us across the Southeast as Zoe competes in a food truck competition.  Fun book and fun series.

2.  Flamenco, Flan and Fatalities by Mary McHugh - This is the second book in the "Happy Hoofers" mystery series.  The Happy Hoofers are five older women who dance on the road.  Each book takes us to a different place and, of course, the women are always stumbling over dead bodies.  This one took us to Spain.

3.  Borrowed Crime by Laurie Cass - The third book in the "Bookmobile Cat" mystery series.  The star of the show is Eddie, the cat.  Minnie, the librarian, sneaks the cat onto the bookmobile as she makes her rounds.  They are always getting themselves into trouble, though.

4.  Unbelievable by Cindy Blackburn - This is a brand new series.  Cassie moves to Vermont to live with her father, who is driving her crazy.  She finds a dead body on the lake and then it disappears.  Not to mention a mad scientist lives next door.

5.  The Mysterious Doll by Linda Weaver Clarke - This is the fourth book in the Amelia Moore detective series.  These books are sweet, mysteries...not necessarily murder mysteries, but sometimes searching for missing people.  They are interesting and quick reads.  Plus, we get the blossoming romance between Amelia and her partner.

6.  Demise in Denim by Duffy Brown - I love this series.  The fifth book in the "Consignment Shop" mystery series finds Reagan's boyfriend, and the lawyer who helped her ex get all her money in a divorce settlement, accused of murder.  He's on the run and she's trying to find out who really did it.  The whole series is made up of wonderful, quirky characters.

7.  Buy A Whisker by Sofie Ryan - Cats, cats and more cats...how can I resist a mystery series featuring a cat?  Elvis, the cat, is back in the second "Second Chance Cat" mystery series.  When a local baker is found dead, Elvis and his human have their work cut out for them to find out who did it.

8.  Fillet of Murder by Linda Reilly - Another brand new cozy mystery series which got off to a great start.  Talia helps her friend run a Fish & Chips restaurant.  When a fellow shop owner her friend to sign a petition to stop a comic book store from opening, the pest ends up dead.  Talia's friend is the prime suspect and it's up to her to prove her innocence.

9.  Fat Cat Spreads Out by Janet Cantrell - This is the second book featuring the cuddly Quincy (a plus- size cat).  I always feel bad for Quincy as his human is always trying to put him on a diet.  All that means is he frequently escapes her house to find his own food.  Oh...and there are dead bodies along the way.  LOL

10.  Dressed to Kill by Lynn Cahoon - One of my favorite cozy series.  This is the 4th book in the series and they get better all the time.  This one centers around a murder mystery dinner.

As I read through my notebook, I found these were the only 5 star books I rated this year...we still have half the year left, of course.  Still, ten books is a good amount.  It did show me one thing, though.  Although I will always love my cozies, I do need to branch out a bit more to other genres.  Hopefully I can do that in the second half of the year.

  2. I really enjoyed Dressed to Kill as well. The series does seem to be getting stronger! Duffy Brown is on my TBR and now I really want to read Unbelievable and The Mysterious Doll.

  4. The JJ Cook and the Lynn Cahoon books are on my wishlist. Thanks for sharing these cozy titles-- I've been doing research to find my niche subgenre of cozies so I can read more of them.

I'm now reading Zero-Degree Murder, a book which I won from you, and enjoying it so far very much, thanks.
