Blog Tour: Raisin the Dead by Karoline Barrett (Review/Tour-Wide Giveaway)

About the Book

Genre: Cozy Mystery, #2 A Bread and Batter Mystery
Publisher: InterMix
Release Date: April 19, 2016

Synopsis from Goodreads:

The author of Bun for Your Life returns to Destiny, New York, where bakery owners and amateur sleuths Molly Tyler and Olivia Williams never crumble under pressure...

While the rest of Destiny is focused on the arrival of an upper crust perfume mogul, Molly is more concerned about what’s on the front page of the newspaper: her mother. Library director Anne Tyler was photographed at the most romantic restaurant in town having a cozy dinner with library advisory board member Philip Baldeli. But there’s more for Molly to worry about after Philip is found dead a few days later.

When Detective Sean Corsino zeroes in on Anne as a person of interest in the case, it turns down the heat on his budding romance with Molly. But after he’s injured during the course of his investigation, Molly and Olivia must step in to sift through the clues and clear Anne’s name.

My Review

Molly Tyler is back and much to everyone’s shock, so is another murder. After seeing her mother, Anne, on the front page of the local newspaper with library board member, Philip Baldeli, Molly is beside herself with concern. They looked just a bit too friendly for Molly’s liking. It’s not long after that Baldeli is found dead and Anne is the number one suspect.

Molly is determined to prove her mother’s innocence, which doesn’t sit well with her detective boyfriend, Sean Corsino. When Sean suffers an accident and winds up in the hospital, Molly is convinced it’s totally up to her find the killer. She has no intentions of visiting her mother in prison.

As Molly seeks the truth, she also has to deal with Sean’s former sister-in-law who is determined to ruin things for Molly and Sean. Molly more than has her hands full.

I enjoyed the first book in this series, Bun for Your Life, and this one is even better. After just reading the first book, I felt as if I knew and loved these characters already. Molly and her friend Olivia – co-owner of the Bread & Batter Bakery have a wonderful, warm relationship and it shows in both books. The author has a talent for writing characters to the point that readers will either love or hate them. The “bad guys” are easy to hate and the “good guys” are beloved.

The storyline flows nicely. I enjoyed following Molly’s journey to the truth and seeing her defend her mother to all who would listen. It’s a fast paced cozy mystery that has everything a reader is looking for – mystery, romance and that quaint small town feeling. There was a bit more of a romance storyline than I normally like in my cozies, but it worked very well in this one and kept me glued to my seat. I have to admit that I suspected the culprit rather early on, but that didn’t ruin the story for me. I enjoyed Molly’s investigation and reading it through to the end.

I hope there will be a third book. I’m looking forward to it already.
