Book Beginnings on Fridays/The Friday 56 - September 17th

This is a fun meme to do hosted by Freda's Voice. If you'd like to join on the fun go to The Friday 56.

Rules:
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader.
*Find any sentence that grabs you.
*Post it.
*Link it here.

It's that simple.

I'm also joining in Book Beginnings on Friday. It's hosted by Rose City Reader

This looks good.  I hope to read it soon.

First Chapter

Camelia Collins hesitated, the key halfway into the lock.  What on Earth have I done?  she wondered to herself.  How many people my age pick up and move house, leaving their old life behind to try something completely different and new?

Not many, she imagined, again pondering her sanity, but they probably should.  After all, if one doesn't follow one's lifelong dreams by the age of seventy, when does one?

From page 56 on my Kindle...

He scrutinized the monitor.  "Can you open it?"

"Hey, what do you think?"  She tapped a sequence of keys, then peered closer.  "Well, well, well.  What have we here?"

Synopsis from Goodreads:

A ghost cat and a cold case murder turn a beach house dream into a nightmare.

Septuagenarian Camelia Collins and her cat Blaze move to the Oregon Coast to fulfill a lifelong dream, but that dream becomes a nightmare when Camelia learns she has purchased a murder house. The former resident, reclusive businessman Jonathan Chamber, was brutally killed on the stoop, and the killer is still at large.

What’s more, Camelia discovers an ancient gravestone at the back of her garden belonging to a cat named Soji. Dead long ago, this seventh black kitten of a seventh black kitten now returns in corporeal form. Will Soji’s haunting help Camelia solve the murder mystery or send her screaming back to Portland?

What do you think?  What are you sharing today?

  2. For a moment while reading the blurb I was worried Blaze would be the ghost cat, but thankfully no, there's just double the cats which is always good! I hope you enjoy this one and that you have a lovely weekend :)
