An amateur sleuth named Bonnie and her kitty companion Clyde, with names like those, what could possibly go wrong?

Life hasn't sparkled too brightly for Bonnie Balfour over the past few years, but a heart-breaking divorce has brought her back to her small rural hometown of Bliss, Georgia, and things are starting to shape up.

The proud new owner of Bless Her Heart—a second chance dress shop and boutique on the town square—Bonnie thinks thirty-eight might not be too late for a fresh start in life after all.

Until a grouchy old widow turns up dead in a pile of donations meant for Bonnie’s shop, and the town’s new detective pins her to the top of his suspect list!

To save her shop, dream and reputation, Bonnie must coordinate clues and stitch together the truth about her innocence, but the unreasonably handsome detective and prying eyes of the local gossip mill are fast fraying her nerves.

When a series of anonymous attacks begin to hem her in, Bonnie fears the real killer is fixing to make her his next victim. Can this amateur sleuth measure up?

My Review

After a messy divorce, Bonnie Balfour returns to her hometown of Bliss, Georgia.  Her beloved parents still live there and she’s hoping for a quiet life.  She starts off by opening a second chance dress shop called, Bless Her Heart.

Things are off to a rocky start when she gets into an argument with a wealthy older woman.  When the woman has a change of heart, she donates a huge amount of clothes to Bonnie’s store.  The situation takes a tragic turn when the woman is found dead with the clothes and all eyes turn to Bonnie as the prime suspect.

Bonnie can’t depend on the police to find the real culprit.  The new - very handsome - detective has set his sights on Bonnie and doesn’t seem to be looking for anyone else.  Bonnie, along with her cute kitty Clyde, set out to find a killer.  If they aren’t successful, Bonnie’s new life will come to an abrupt end before it even starts.

This book grabbed me from page one. It’s the first of a new series and it’s off to a great start.

Bonnie is a genuinely good person in a really bad situation.  The characters in this book are realistic and likeable.  Bonnie’s relationship with her parents is quite touching.

There’s a touch of romance mixed in with this mystery.  It’s fast-paced with several twists and turns along the way.  I was totally off in picking out the culprit.  It was someone I hadn’t suspected at all, but the story all came together and made perfect sense.

It’s the first book I ever read by the author.  I enjoyed her writing style and will be looking for more books by her.  I’m always happy adding to my “must read” author list.

I’m definitely ready for the next book in this series.
