Synopsis from Goodreads:

The Ho-Lee Noodle House takes its business to the next level―only to end up in hot water.

It was supposed to be a fancy, intimate dinner party by the pool. Instead, Lana Lee’s first-ever catering event turns into full-course madness when a domestic worker is found dead. Is the party’s host Donna Feng, the sweet-and-sour owner of the Asia Village shopping plaza where Ho-Lee is situated, somehow to blame? That’s what Lana―whose plate is already plenty full with running the restaurant, pleasing her often-disapproving mother, and fretting over her occasionally-serious boyfriend Detective Adam Trudeau―must find out.

Before the police arrived at the crime scene, Donna had entrusted an odd piece of evidence to Lana: a thumb drive shaped like a terra-cotta soldier. Now it’s up to Lana to lead her own investigation, digitally and in real life, into a world of secrets involving Donna’s earlier life in China, whether the victim had a dark agenda, and if the killer is still out there. . .and plans to strike again.

My Review

Restauranteur, Lana Lee, is catering her very first event and she wants everything to be perfect. The host of the party is Donna Feng, a fellow shopping plaza owner. Things take a nasty turn when Donna gets into a public fight with her children’s nanny. Not long after the fight, the nanny is found dead and suspicions immediately turn in Donna’s direction.

Donna isn’t only a client to Lana, but also a friend.  She is determined to help find the real killer and prove Donna’s innocence. It’s not an easy task as Lana keeps uncovering more and more secrets about Donna’s past. However, Lana has faith in her friend and is sure she didn’t commit murder, and she will prove it.

I always enjoy this cozy mystery series. This is the fifth book in the series. The series keeps getting better with each book.  It’s not 100% necessary to read them in order, but I would.  There are no cliffhangers for the mystery plot, and it wraps up with each book, but there is much character growth with Lana and reading the whole series is a great way to know more about her.  Not to mention there is a romance brewing too!

I’m looking forward to continuing to read more in the Noodle Shop Mystery series.

  1. I am also enjoying this series. It is a little more serious than some of the other cozy mystery series. Nice review.
