Longtime friends Jack Riley and Juliette (aka Jules) Baxter are committed to fulfilling their first year of business at their breakfast café, but trouble is brewing again in their personal lives. Jack and Jules's cousin Reese are in a committed relationship -- or are they? Jack's not so certain given Reese's continued reluctance to come out of the closet. Jules has ended her polyamorous relationships, but she's juggling romantic attraction to two cafe staff members - a man and a woman. Now Jules's parents are split in supporting the cafe, and Reese's mother is making big trouble as well. When more details of Jack's secret past rise from the ashes, everything seems to be in turmoil. Will they all survive to the cafe's first anniversary?
My Review
Times are crazy for Jack Riley and Juliette Baxter. After dealing with a violent attack a few months ago, they hoped things would calm down and they could run their breakfast cafe in peace. Unfortunately, it’s one issue after another that makes them wonder if they can really make a go of the cafe.
One big problem is they are in financial debt. Another problem is both of their personal lives are in turmoil. Jules has given up her polyamorous relationships but becomes involved with two of her employees. Meanwhile, Jack and Jules’ cousin, Reese, are going strong in their relationship. Although things aren’t as good as they could be since Reese refuses to come out of the closet and his parents give the couple a hard time.
There are so many obstacles for them to get past. They have a long way to go before they can solve anything. Meanwhile, they all pitch in trying to keep the breakfast cafe open.
This is the second book in Meg Macy’s Love is Love series and it picks up right where the first one left off. I recommend you read them in order as the storyline flows better if you do.
I thought this one was even better than the first book. There is quite a bit going on in this story. It features everything from violent assault, lack of acceptance, betrayal, sizzling sex scenes and family drama.
The author did a great job of making the reader feel the pain the characters were going through. It's an intense, emotional rollercoaster. This story is filled with heartbreak and realism.
Love Me Do leaves readers with a cliffhanger. Clearly there’s an opening for a third book and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next with these characters.
