Ebook Readers - Kindle vs. Nook

Okay....I've been adamant about not getting an ebook reader. I love the feel and smell of paper books. However, I literally have 10,000+ books in my TBR and my books are taking over the house. We are even considering relocating in a few years and my husband said it would cost too much to transport the books and they'd have to go (Yikes!!!!!!!) Of course he's right and I just let my "hobby" get out of hand. But, what's done is done :) I probably won't read all these books in my lifetime and I'd donate them to our local library. This isn't a done deal and we still may stay right where we are forever, but that's another story. So, I'm thinking I might be better off with an ebook reader and I wouldn't have to worry about storing 1000's of books. Also, we like to travel and taking one device would certainly be easier than taking 6-10 books on the plane.

Anyway, here's my question for discussion...do you have an Amazon Kindle or a Barnes & Noble Nook? Do you like them? Are they easy to use? Years ago I had a Sony reader which I never could get into. The screen was tiny and I never used it, but I got it for really cheap so I didn't care. I'm going to Barnes & Noble today to see if they have one in the store that I could hold and get the feel for.

I'd appreciate anyone who has either reader to let me know what their feelings are about either one. Do you like them? Are they easy to read? Do you have any complaints? Thank you!

  1. I am a very satisfied Nook owner. I preordered one and it had some minor bookmarking problems that have since been taken care of with a automatic update. I love that it has a memory card slot, so that it can hold an infinite amount of books.

  2. I'll always prefer the actual book, but I LOVE my KINDLE! Especially for when I read hefty books 400++ pages. If is so nice to be hands free and just use a find to turn the page. Love it!

  3. Thanks for the input! How nice that I have input on both devices.

I went to Barnes & Noble today and was holding it and testing it. I'm not sure which one I'll go with yet.

  4. I have a Kindle. I recently took it with me on a 10 day trip to Washington DC and Abu Dhabi. It wins hands down over carrying 10 paper copies for books so I can survive long haul flights. I currently have 66 books loaded and am never short of anything to read. here's a link to my Kindle posts.

  6. I have a Kindle and love it when I am traveling. I can bring loads of books and only have to carry the Kindle. I also read the NY Times on it everyday. But given the choice between my Kindle and a "real" book, I'll take a real book any day!

Thank you for stopping by and visiting my blog! I always love reading comments and getting to know my readers!

After some careful consideration, I've decided to become an award-free blog. Although I appreciate and am honored by each and every award I've received, your comments and friendship are enough award for me. Thank you all so much for your thoughtfulness.
