When Aggie Mundeen accompanies San Antonio Detective Sam Vanderhoven on a weekend getaway to Lake Placid, she thinks it’s going to be fun in the sun. What could be better than caretaking a friend’s cottage on the Guadalupe River in Central Texas? Never mind that Sam intends to discretely investigate the theft of that friend’s boat...

Unfortunately, the weather has plans of its own. Buckets of rain and gusting winds roil the lake, turning the peaceful Guadalupe into an angry, raging river. As darkness descends, lightning reveals two people arguing on a dock across the river. When lightning flashes again, they are gone. Did Aggie and Sam witness an accident? A drowning? A murder?

The Plunge sweeps readers along with the threat of looming disaster, helpless before an untamable force, where sleuthing takes a back seat to survival...
My Review

It starts out as a fun, relaxing trip with her boyfriend, Sam Vanderhoven, but it quickly turns into a nightmare for Aggie Mundeen. The weather takes a nasty turn and the entire area, including the house they are staying in, is flooded with torrential rain. During the storm Aggie sees two people fighting on the docks but they suddenly disappear. She can’t help but wonder what happened to them.

As Sam and Aggie try to help people in the midst of disaster, they discover some secrets which could destroy the people they are trying to save. Aggie starts to ask questions but they seem to be putting her in danger. She can’t help but try to solve this mystery.

This is the first book in a follow-up series to Nancy G. West’s original Aggie Mundeen Mysteries. I read the first one in the original series awhile ago, but I still need to read the books that followed.

The mystery in The Plunge is self-contained in this book. You don’t really need to read the previous ones, but if you’re like me, you want to catch up with the characters and watch them grow. So, I do plan to read the books I missed.

The author does an amazing job of describing the floods and the horrors the victims feel. I felt every bit of pain they were all experiencing. The descriptions brought me right into the center of it all. I was at the edge of my seat reading this fast-paced adventure. I’m looking forward to the next one.
