The Weekend Review - August 29th-31st

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to  Stacking The Shelves which is hosted by Team Tynga's Reviews.

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Last week was a busy one on my blog and this week is more of the same.  I totally overbooked tours for August.  September isn't as bad, but still busy.  Of course this can change at any given moment.

I managed to finish two books this past week.  One of them was actually a book I bought and not an ARC.  It feels good to read a book off my own personal shelf for a change.  I rarely get to do that.  Something I'm hoping to change in the next year.  I'll continue to accept reviews, but I also want to read books from my own TBR shelf.  I always say I will, but I end up not doing that.

I haven't been doing much watching TV or movies lately.  Nothing has really been interesting to me.  So, hopefully, it will give me more time to read.  Of course it doesn't always work out that way :)

On a personal level, everything is the same here.  We continue to go out for necessities but basically we are still at home.  I heard something about my county moving towards phase two.  So, I guess that means things are getting better but the numbers still seem too high to me.  So, we do what's best for us.  Fortunately, we've still been able to see our immediate family, so that's a good thing.

I hope you all had a good week and have a great upcoming week! Take care and stay safe!

I'm currently reading...

I finished reading ...

I'm planning to read one of these next...

Here are this week's Kindle freebie haul. They were freebies when I got them, I don't know if they still are. Always make sure to check they are still free before buying. The prices change quickly.

Blog Tours and Reviews coming up soon...

  1. Thanks for sharing the freebies!

At this moment, I am only reading books from my TBR shelve or Book Club. Or the occasional purchase. No Reviews. And I love it!

I feel like Christmas... Still a few months to go!

Have a wonderful week, here's my The Sunday Post #9

  2. I like to focus on my own books. I don't like the feeling that I have to read a book. In a perfect world, I like to pick up the books that look good to me at a conference and review the ones that work. Of course, it's not really a perfect world right now.

I think our numbers are going down a little because most people are wearing masks at places of business (mandated by the governor). It feels like it has gone on so long, doesn't it? But what choice do we have?

I would think that your cozies are comforting reads right now.

I hope you will have a good week. Stay safe as things open up there.

  3. I like the cover of Posioning in Picadilly. I read one book that I bought this month, too. It's been a while seen I've been able to read books I bought. I guess that is a benefit(?) of the pandemic - without going to the bookstore or the charity book sales I haven't bought any books this year (I don't like browsing online for books).

  4. Every year I say I want to read more books off my shelves and then used the excuse I'll save them for retirement. Well, I've been retired 5 years now and still not much progress, although I probably by fewer than 10 new books a year (excluding the monthly audible ones). It's a challenge for sure.

  5. Wonder what that means when your county is moving towards phase two. Lots of cozy mysteries and thrillers on your list. I took note of a few.

  6. I say the same thing every year too :)

Wishing you a great reading week, stay safe x

  7. I think a lot of us had our reading plans derailed by this extraordinary year... I, too, had planned to focus on my TBR - and then found myself hitting Netgalley HARD for arcs! I hope you enjoy your reads in the coming week and don't feel too pressured:)

  8. I get offered ARCs, but I only accept a few a year because I always have a ton of old, unread books sitting around. I prefer reading those. Have a great week!

Aj @ Read All The Things!

  9. Thank you for sharing the freebies. The book you’re currently reading looks interesting. Have a great day.

  10. That is great that your area is hopefully moving into Phase 2. My county finally moved to Phase 3 and that makes me hopeful. Still, like you, we only go out for necessities. You've got some great books on your to be read list. Hope you have a great week ahead!

  11. We are home most of the time and only see immediate family too. Have a nice week! XO

  12. This year I made it a goal to keep review books down and I have succeeded to some extent. Of course buying new books and getting library reserve books coming in adds to the log jam! Happy reading and stay wise and safe from this virus.

  13. It is nice when you get to read a book for fun and not because you feel you have to. It is also difficult to stick to that!

  14. Oh a new Sophie Kelly! We are still self-isolating. We go to the grocery or farm stand about twice a month. THe rest of the time we do curbside pickup. We haven't seen ANYONE socially yet.

  15. I am still in lockdown, but we are back to the dining room on alternate days...and we can socialize a bit more. Here, though. No outings. I guess I'm used to it by now, after almost six months!

Thank goodness for the return of the soaps.

Enjoy your books and your week, and here are my WEEKLY UPDATES

  16. I did the same thing to myself in August. Not sure why. Hoping September remains easier on you.

Miracle Creek Christmas and The 12 Christmases of You and Me both caught my eye. I've seen them a few places lately and I am ready to read something seasonal.

Hope you have a good week.

  17. I find myself tapering off review books. I think it is mainly because I am being much pickier about the ones I pick for review. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
