The Weekend Review - July 8th-10th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to  Stacking The Shelves which is hosted by Reading Reality.

Hi Everyone!

It's been a quiet, but hot week in Florida.  We've been having heat index numbers in the triple digits and thunderstorms every afternoon.  The thunder has been worse than the 4th of July fireworks.  I'll be happy when rainy season is over.

I managed to finish two books this week.  Both good cozy mysteries with cats.  They are part of blog tours so my reviews will be posted later this month.

As for what I'm watching, I finished the first two seasons of Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime.  I still have two more seasons to binge on.  Next week is the two-hour series finale of The Blacklist.  I'll miss that show.

Has anyone joined the new social media forum Threads?  It's supposed to compete with Twitter.  I haven't been thrilled with any of the social media platforms lately.  I don't know if I'll join Threads or just stick with Facebook and some of the book places like Goodreads and Bookbub.  I'm on Instagram but I hardly ever use it.

So, how has your week been?  Read or watch anything good?  I hope you all have a great week!

Here's my July reading line-up.  These are the books I'm hoping to read in July, but we all know how lists can easily be changed.  A couple are carried over from June.

Here are this week's Kindle freebie haul. They were freebies when I got them, I don't know if they still are. Always make sure to check they are still free before buying. The prices change quickly.

  1. Triple digits. Yikes. And yay for good cozies. As much as I like them, I should get more of them.

I've heard about threads but don't know much about it. Same here with IG.

  2. Your current read looks so good. I love the title! I haven't tried Threads yet but I'm curious to.
    Happy reading!

  3. Those cosy mysteries look super-cute! I've been bingeing CSI: NY and House. Have a great week!

  4. I joined Threads. It's good so far because everyone is excited that it is new and fresh. Not sure how long that sentiment will last!

  5. I just connected to Threads. I've never done much on Instagram, and I've backed away from FB and Twitter, so we'll see how this goes!

It's been crazy hot here, with that oppressive combination of heat and humidity.

    Enjoy your books for July!

  6. I really need to watch Jack Ryan! I never have. Threads is tied to your Instagram account, so if you decide to delete Threads, it deletes your Instagram account too. I have plenty of other social media, so I haven't joined Threads and don't plan to.

  7. Those temperatures and thunderstorms must be challenging! I’ve thought about connecting to threads but I’m a big user of both Twitter and Instagram so I won’t be joining until I feel a need to. Have a great week!

  8. I've thought about it, but since I rarely used Twitter, not sure I'd use Threads any more so I haven't jumped on it. The couple other people I've seen who've tried it seem happy with it. Have a terrific week.

  9. Oh my goodness - triple figures!! We've been wilting at night when the temperature nudged the high 60s... And yes - we've also been having thunderstorms and I find them a real misery! I hope the coming week is less turbulent:).

  10. Those cat covers are too cute. And you reminded me I need to read book 2 of the Olivia Blacke series. Hope you get a break with the weather.

  11. I am so out of the loop. I have just started hearing about Threads this week and your post is the second one I have clicked on today that has mentioned it. I tried to look into it, but I don't want to have to scan a QR code to just see what it is about. I am very active on FB and Instagram, and get on Twitter a few times a week. I don't want to be on another social media site if I don't really have to.

  12. I can't believe how hot it's been in Florida! Glad you can stay indoors and read or watch something good. Still haven't looked into Threads yet, but it seems many book bloggers and book friends are signing up. I'm not happy with twitter, but not sure I'm ready to join Threads yet either...

  13. You must have all our rain. The storms keep missing us and though I don't want storms we could use some rain the grass is getting brown.
I am not a Zuckerburg fan so I will not be trying Threads, sticking with Twitter (don't really use it much anyway...lol).

Hope you have a great week and happy reading!

  14. We've been having similar weather. I'll be sticking only with Instagram (my overall preference) and Facebook. Instagram is my personal account, and so is Facebook, but I only use Facebook for bookish groups I'm in. I don't need anymore social media to eat up my time, so I won't be joining Threads. And I'm not on Twitter.

Is there an easy way on Kindle to find free books that are tailored to my interests? I started using it today and I went down a pretty deep rabbit hole. Lol. I ended up with six free books, which I suppose isn't too bad.

    Have a great week! :)

  15. The weather in the south Louisiana swamps is about the same as Florida. I hope the heat breaks soon.

Blogging is about as much social media as i can handle.

  16. Ugh I hope your weather is cooler this week. I joined threads, so far it's much more pleasant that 2023 twitter.

  17. I'm honestly not going to join Threads anytime soon. I'm already on a lot of social media apps and I've been hearing some bad things about it. Let's hope things settle down soon in terms of social media. Hope you have a good week!

  18. I will miss Blacklist too. And I will be very mad if they don't tell us who he is. I won't join another platform. I can't even handle my blog and FB. :) XO

  19. We had thunderstorms here today. Hopefully the heat breaks where you are. All your books sound great. Hope you enjoy them.

  20. I'm glad I live in the chilly North. We seldom hit the triple digits which I am fine with. We had a big of a thunderstorm last night at bedtime. I don't think it lasted long or gave us enough rain. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  21. You sound like me with social media. Mmm that cover of Macarons can be Murder looks really good.

  22. Oh I just love a good cozy, yes! Happy reading 🌞📚💜
    Come see my week here

  23. I'm not that interested in Threads, I guess. Not that I use Twitter, either. Facebook is used mainly to show pictures to my kids'grandparents.

  24. I'm starting Macarons Can Be Murder tonight and am really looking forward to it. Love when I'm reading good cozies! Have a great week!

  25. We're not quite in the triple digits yet but we're getting close in my neck of the woods. Hope things cool off soon for you.
Those cozy mysteries look great. I love those with cats especially.
I have no desire to deal with social media. It's so toxic. But I hope for those who do it's a better option than the others!
I hope you have a wonderful reading week!
