The Weekend Review - July 1-3rd

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to  Stacking The Shelves which is hosted by Reading Reality.

Hi Everyone!

Happy 4th of July weekend to those in the US celebrating.  We don't have any plans, but we're hoping to stay home with the kitties.  It's usually a very loud night and they aren't fans of it.  Usually we can see fireworks from our house.  These days it's either so hot and humid or very heavy with rains.  It's hard to know what July 4th will be like.

I managed to finish two books this week.  Good mysteries.  I finally found a "new-to-me" show to binge on - Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, which is on Amazon Prime.  The few episodes I've seen so far have been really good.

Not too much going on around here.  Just trying to find places to cool down.  I hope you all have a great week!

I finished reading ...

Here's my July reading line-up.  These are the books I'm hoping to read in July, but we all know how lists can easily be changed.  A couple are carried over from June.

Here are this week's Kindle freebie haul. They were freebies when I got them, I don't know if they still are. Always make sure to check they are still free before buying. The prices change quickly.

  1. Happy 4th! They're already shooting them off here and the cats are not pleased. :)

  2. It's nice to see I'm not the only one who keeps pushing books back. I'm finally reading a book I thought I'd get to months ago. I see the same is happening with you and Mulled to Death. I do encourage you to read it because that is such a great series.

  5. We’re also celebrating Canada Day here in Canada so Happy long weekend! The fireworks went on here until after 1:30 am - I hope they stop at a humane hour for you. Have a great rest of your long weekend!

  6. Happy 4th! We don't do anything either and I am always hugging on my fur baby as she doesn't like the noise and we live in the country so there is no cut off time!! :( It's the one thing I hate about the 4th.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  7. Happy fourth. I've finally got some books read. Unfortunately chrome has made it impossible to screenshot, so I'll have to look into that in order to share to my blog.

  8. I like your book lineup for July. These look perfect for summer reading.

It always feels like I've been airlifted into World War III on July 4th. Often it begins early and ends very late. Too noisy! I'm with your kitties.

  9. I guess I need to go easier on myself because I'm learning that I'm not the only who needs to change my reading plan sometimes. I'll be carrying over some books from June as well. Pride, Prejudice, and Turkish Delight looks so fun. I love everything about Pride and Prejudice and a Turkish twist sounds cool! I added it to my TBR list. Thanks!! :-)

  10. Happy 4th, Yvonne! Although fireworks are illegal here, people have already started shooting them off. We don't have any plans for the day either, although I do have to work--so I guess there is that.

I am in between shows right now and you've talked me into starting Jack Ryan. I watched part of the first season years ago, but barely remember it. I will start over and watch through to the fourth season, I think.

Your July line up looks really good! I need to read the first in the record shop series, but A Fatal Groove sounds good too.

I hope you have a great week!

  11. Glad you're going to stay with your kitties for the 4th... the fireworks always traumatized our dogs. Have a good week.

  12. Death Steals the Spotlight looks good. Happy 4th! XO

  13. There's so much to read and so little time. I hope you have a blessed and beautiful Independence Day!

  14. Happy 4th. I think we're expecting rain tomorrow which could delay the city's fireworks show. I'm planning to read instead of watching in any case. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  15. Hope the weather plays nice for you on the 4th. Yes fireworks and animals don't go well together.

  16. I hope you have a good 4th and that you don't have a lot of fireworks that scare your cats. I know my cats and dog freak out on July 4th and New Years Eve, every year. I love fireworks but don't like that my pets are scared, so I just sit with them and comfort them as best I can.

  17. Our July 4th was a bit odd. The weather has been so awful that there weren't nearly as many fireworks as there usually are. The dog doesn't care but the cat is not a fan. I hope you're having a great week.
