The Weekend Review - June 8th-10th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to Stacking the Shelves which is hosted by Reading Reality.

Hi Everyone!

Our Florida temps have been in the 90's all week.  Quite a bit of humidity.  We've also had severe thunderstorms which dropped the temps about 20 degrees, but the humidity stayed.  It made it so swampy out there.  Mostly I stayed home in the a/c, but we did manage to do a bit of sightseeing.

We went to the Flagler Museum which is an old mansion from the Gilded Age.  It was huge and beautiful.  It made for a fun afternoon.

I did manage to finish one book this week.  Nora Roberts' Mind Games was really good.  I enjoyed that one.  Now I felt like a beach read so I read Pamela Kelley's latest.  I'm almost finished with it.  It's very good, too.  The library had an e-book I placed on hold ready for me.  It was ready sooner than I thought it would be so that's next on my list to read.  It's #4 in Vivien Chien's Noodle Shop series.  I've been wanting to get back to her series.  I really like it.

As for what I'm watching, mainly baseball.  I have started Criminal Minds Evolution and Evil.  Both have been good.  Sometimes I fill that with episodes of Elsbeth but I really haven't been doing much TV watching this week.

Other than that, I'm just reading.  Hope you all have a great week!

These are the books I'm hoping to read in June.  I didn't finish all of my May books, so I'll try to sneak a couple through in June.

Here is this week's Kindle freebie haul. They were freebies when I got them, I don't know if they still are. Always make sure to check they are still free before buying. The prices change quickly.

  1. Seaside Sisters has a great cover!

It's been so humid here that my husband can't get the glue on his gemstones to stick well enough for him to facet in his shop outside our house. It has been hot, too.

  2. Your weather sounds similar to what ours was last week. I can't tell you how many times a book I requested at the library became available when I wasn't ready for it. I haven't read any books by Vivien Chen, but I definitely want to. That series looks delicious! Have a great week and stay cool! :)

  4. I thought Mind Games was good too. I would love to catch the new Criminal Minds. I think it's streaming on Peacock, isn't it? Which I don't have.

  8. Weather here has been ok. Sunny and cloudy temps ok. I keep waiting for a heatwave but luckily it hasn't appeared yet. It only needs to get above 20 degrees Centigrade and I'm moaning (and to be honest lower than that 🤣) I'm not a warm sunny weather person!

The mansion sounds great. I love visiting old properties. Here in Kent there are quite a few so I'm very lucky.

I need to keep an eye out for The Noodle Shop series.

    Have a great week ahead!

  12. The mansion sounds like a fun place to visit and I hate it when the humidity is so bad you feel like you are swimming when you go outside. I really want to start watching Evil. I've heard some good things about the series. Hope you have a great week!

  13. While I admire Florida's temperatures in the winter, I don't envy you your summers. It currently 62 and sunny where I live. I loved Mind Games. Now I'm reading a bunch of other review books that I'm not enjoying as much. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  15. Mind Games sounds good - I do enjoy her books. But that humidity sounds brutal - how does anyone ever get anything done outside?? Here it continues to be cloudy and cool, though at least it's dry. I hope you're having a great week, Yvonne.
