The Weekend Review - July 27th-July 29th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to Stacking the Shelves which is hosted by Reading Reality.

Hi Everyone!

It was a quiet week.  My only excitement was that I bought a Kindle Scribe on sale.  I wasn't going to get it, but I decided to give it a try.  For those who don't know, Kindle Scribe is sort of a combination of e-reader and journal.  It's 10 inches which is much bigger than my Kindle Paperwhite.  I only played with it this week.  I ordered a cover for it and don't want to use it too much until it gets here.  I'm afraid of clumsily dropping it.  So, that was my excitement this week.

I finished two books this week - both of them good.  I didn't read as much as I wanted to in July.  I'm hoping August will be better.  I'm desperately trying to cut back on my reviews including NetGalley/ Edelweiss requests.  I want to concentrate more on reading my own books off my TBR.

I haven't been doing much TV watching.  Just baseball and some Outlander episodes.  I saw a horror movie "Abigail".  It was okay...pretty gory.

That's about it from here.  I hope you all have a great week!

Posts last week:

Monday:  Awww Mondays

I'm currently reading...

I finished reading ...

I had hoped to read these books in July, but I don't think I will get to them.  Next week I will work on my August list. Maybe I'll do better next month.

Here is this week's Kindle freebie haul.  They were freebies when I got them, I don't know if they still are. Always make sure to check they are still free before buying. The prices change quickly.

  1. Your plan to read what you want to read sounds very sensible to me, but I simply don’t understand why people go after all those free books that they don’t really want to read.

  4. I also didn't get as much reading done in July as I thought I would. It was a much busier month than anticipated. I hope you have a great week!

  8. I haven't paid attention to any new Kindles. I have an Oasis and it still works perfectly so I've had no plans to upgrade. I need to check out the Scribe, though. It sounds interesting. I hope you continue to like it. :D

  9. I've given up on using my Kindles - too slow. I read on my iphone now which is small but fast. I hope you like yours. It doesn't seem like I read enough in July so I'm trying to squeeze in a few more reads. But now I want to watch the Olympics.

  10. I have cut back a lot of NG/EW books too, though this week it doesn't look like it...lol. Three books though from favorite authors and one new to me I think is pretty good. :)

Have a great week and happy reading!

  12. Your Kindle scribe sounds interesting, hadn't heard of it up to now. Yes always a tension between our own shelves and review books.

  14. Sounds like a good week! I keep saying I'm going to cut down on review books, but I can never seem to resist temptation. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  15. Enjoy your new Kindle! I have a very old Kindle, but I've never been super motivated to use it.

  16. I decided early on when I joined the book blogosphere that reading unpublished books was not for me. I have so many already published books that others have recommended as good I want to get through, why read a book that might be a dud? Good luck with your resolve to get back to your TBR.

  17. I'm trying to cut down on my review books as well though some months I do better than others! Your upcoming books look really good! Especially the Beatriz Williams. I hope you have a great week!
