The Weekend Review - July 6th-July 8th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to Stacking the Shelves which is hosted by Reading Reality.

Hi Everyone!

Well, the first week of July is over.  That was fast.  Here in the US it was July 4th so we celebrated a little.  We were able to see fireworks from our house.  The cats weren't impressed. We did go to a festival here, but it was just so hot and humid that we didn't stay long.  It was best being home :)

I only finished one book this week, but it was a good one.  I do love cruise ship cozy mysteries these days.  I always feel like I just got off a ship after I finish reading one.

I'm continuing to watch Outlander and that's about it this week.  I do have to catch up with Criminal Minds and Evil at some point.

Other than that, it's been quiet here.  How has it been in your corner of the world?  I hope you all have a great week!

I have two books to carryover from June.  The rest are all July books.

Here is this week's Kindle freebie haul. It was a light week. They were freebies when I got them, I don't know if they still are. Always make sure to check they are still free before buying. The prices change quickly.

  1. Criminal Minds and Evil are so good, I devour them as soon as they drop. LOL Glad you had a good 4th!

  2. Thanks for the freebie links, I'm going to check out a few. Looks like a great reading month for you. Hope you enjoy them all.

  3. The forest is a great setting for a murder. So many of the fairy tales we read as children are set there.

I'm glad you had a quiet week. I did, too, although we are all on high alert with the hurricane in the Gulf right now. lol

  4. Weather really did interrupt a lot of July 4th celebrations this week — good that you at least had a short visit to your festival.

  5. Glad you had a nice relaxing week. The early part of the week was good but starting the 4th the heat index has been way up.

  6. I didn't go anywhere on the 4th either. I could hear fireworks from my condo, but couldn't see them. My cats slept through them. A cozy set on a cruise does sound fun. I have a book of short stories like that. Maybe I'll read it in August after I get Christmas in July out of my system. Lol. I also grabbed A Slice of Summer. Looks like the author has several seasonal books. Have a great week! :)

  7. A good load of books. How fun to have things going on. A shame about the weather. We have had a mix here of sun and heavy rain.

Have a great rest of the weekend!

  8. I don't make it a habit to see the fireworks every year, but we did see them this year since we were at my sister's house. Have a great week!

  9. My cats weren't impressed with the fireworks either, lol. My older cat is becoming less afraid of them and sometimes even watches them out the window. The younger one, though, spends her time under a bed or the couch. Poor kitty.

I'm glad you had a fun 4th. Sorry it was so hot and humid and cut your celebrations short. Summer really is a hard month to deal with outside.

    Have a great week!

  11. Work as always this week and going in the crowd to the fireworks doesn't appeal to me much. We just listen to all the illegal ones in the neighborhood, but there weren't many this year.

    Keep Cool!

  12. Awesome that you had a good work and saw the fireworks. Lovely list of books.

  13. I think reading a book set on a cruise would be perfect and you wouldn't have to go on an actual boat. We went on one once between NZ and Australia, it was very very rough!!

  14. Our dog isn't a fireworks fan. I might have to soundproof a crate for him.

A Very Woodsy Murder sounds good. Hope you have a nice reading week.

  15. A nice relaxing week is always good. I missed seeing the fireworks but someone in the neighborhood must have been doing their own. It sounds like bombs going off for a while. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  16. It sounds like you had a nice 4th of July even with the heat and humidity. One of my cats hid under the bed while the fireworks were going off, She wouldn't come out for anything. My other cat just stuck close to me.

A Very Woodsy Murder has such a cute cover! I hope you are enjoying it. Murder Takes a Bow sounds fun. It looks like you have a great line up for July. I hope you enjoy your July reading! Have a great week!

  17. I love Ellen Byron and am curious about A Very Woodsy Murder. I almost picked up on Netgalley but I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment. Glad you had a happy 4th! I hope you're having a great week!
