Synopsis from Goodreads:
What begins as a prank ends in murder.
The campaign for the U.S. Congressional seat was referred to in the press as “Mr. Smith goes to Washington versus the carpetbagger.” The popular local candidate gets the majority of endorsements, but his opponent’s wealthy, out-of-state family doesn’t play by the rules.
Penny-wise Investigations, a discount detective agency located in a mall, is hired to find who is stealing the local candidate’s political signs. Two of their investigators not only catch the thieves, they find a body next to a pile of stolen signs...proving that Campaigning Can Be Deadly.
My Review
Private Investigator, Cameron Chandler, is settling into her job at Penny-wise Investigations. A detective agency conveniently located in a shopping mall. Her latest case seems easy enough and Cameron is ready for it.
There’s a local election going on for a congressman and both sides are playing nasty. In fact, one of the candidate’s volunteers are stealing the yard signs from the other candidate. Cameron’s job is to find the culprit and put an end to this nonsense.
Easy, right? Cameron and her partner find the signs, but they also find a dead body next to them. Now, the case has taken on a new meaning.
This is a fast-paced, intriguing murder mystery with many potential suspects. The characters are well-written and come to life with each page. Cameron and Yuri are my favorites.
This is the second book in the Discount Detective Mystery series and it’s even better than the first one. Sometimes the second book doesn’t meet the expectations of the first, but not in this case. This one didn’t disappoint. On to the third book…
