The Summerhouse by Jude Deveraux

Madison, Ellie, and Leslie had one thing in common. They all shared the same birthdate. They met one time when they were 19 at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Then they all went their separate ways. Twenty years later, on the verge of their 40th birthday, they reunite to take stock of their lives.

Each woman’s life did not go according to plan.

Madison gave up a promising modeling career to take care of her cruel, disabled husband. He ended up rich and she ended up alone and miserable.

Ellie became a bestselling author of romantic mysteries, only to lose everything to her money hungry husband in a vicious divorce settlement.

Leslie married her childhood sweetheart and they have two children, giving up her own dreams of a dancing career. Now she suspects her husband is cheating on her.

They all meet at a cabin in Bangor, Maine. Each are shocked to see that their friends are looking beaten up by life and completely miserable. Then, they meet Madame Zoya and are offered a chance of a lifetime. She is willing to transport them back in time and give them a chance to change their lives. Will they take this opportunity?

This was a fast-paced read for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was captivated from page one. I have the sequel Return to Summerhouse in my TBR and looking forward to getting around to reading that one too. It’s been so long since I read a Jude Deveraux book that I forgot how good they are.

1) If you don't frequent your local library, why not?

I only go for the DVDs and audio books. I like reading my books on my own schedule, so I rarely borrow books. Sometimes, but not often.

2) If you do visit the library, how often do you go?

For DVDs, I go almost once or twice a week. For audio books, maybe once a month.

3) Do you have a favorite section that you always head to first, or do you just randomly peruse the shelves?

DVDS and audio books :)

4) How many books are you allowed to check out at one time? Do you take advantage of this?

I'm not sure how many books, but I can take out 10 DVDs and sometimes I do.

5) How long are you allowed to have the books checked out?

DVDs - 7 days. New books - 7 days. Others - 3 weeks.

If a book is on hold, you can't renew it which is why I don't usually take out books.

6) How many times are you allowed to renew your check-outs, if at all?

As long as there are no holds on the books, you can keep renewing them.

7) What do you love best about your particular library?

It's fairly new and pretty big.

8) What is one thing you wish your library did differently?

Let us keep new books and DVDs out a little longer.

9) Do you request your books via an online catalogue, or through the librarian at your branch?

I do it online.

10) Have you ever chosen a book on impulse (from the online catalogue OR the shelves) and had it turn out to be totally amazing? If so, what book was it, and why did you love it?

Sure. Usually through browsing the shelves. I can't think of anything in particular though.

Sunday Salon - July Wrap Up!

I've been on vacation this week and returned last night. We had a great time. We stayed in Atlantic City and then did some day trips from there. We went to Cape May and Sea Isle City in New Jersey. We spent quite a bit of time soaking up the sun by the hotel pool. A very relaxing week.

I actually completed two books and started a third. I read Shopaholic Takes Manhattan and Body Check. I started The Summerhouse by Jude Deveraux, which is pretty good so far.

Here are the books I read in July (I really can't believe we are in August already). The reviews for all these books have been posted on my blog. It was a pretty good month for me.

Hayden Houston leaves California to return to Chicago. Her father, owner of a hockey team, is facing some serious criminal charges and a messy divorce. Although she vows to support her father, she hates hockey and anything to do with it. Before she leave California, she takes a “break” from her boyfriend, as something is missing from their relationship and she needs to take this time to think about it.

Hayden isn’t sure what to do about her boyfriend, but for now she just wants to be single and free. Her best friend convinces her to go for a one night stand. Hayden resists, but when she sees handsome Brody Croft at a bar, she does a double-take and flirts outrageously. Brody is also quite attracted to Hayden. They have their one night together, but find they can’t keep their hands off each other. When Hayden learns that Brody is a hockey player and works for her father, the sparks really fly!

I really enjoyed this one and read it in one day. The characters were all likeable. Hayden and Brody’s chemistry truly sizzles. I’m going to be looking for more books by this author.
