Sunday Salon - Happy Mother's Day!

I had a pretty good week. Here are the books I finished...

Twilight by Stephenie Meyers (audio) - I enjoyed it, but I don't see what the big fuss is with this book, but I'll listen to the next one and see if I feel any differently.

Mr. Darcy Broke My Heart by Beth Pattillo - Excellent! It has me interested in reading more books that are based on Jane Austen and/or her books.

Making the Rounds by David Dosa, MD - Very touching, sweet book.

My latest addiction is my Barnes & Noble Nook ereader. I never ever thought I'd be so hooked on ebooks. With the latest Nook update, we can now spend an hour a day reading books for free at Barnes & Noble. I work right across the street from B&N, so guess where I spend my lunch hour? It's wonderful! I used to spend my lunch hour buying books, now I read them for free. Not to mention that it's a great break from a hectic work day.

I just started reading Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris. It's about time I got back to this series although I'm sure I won't complete the challenge in time. That's alright, though. I do enjoy the series.

I hope all the moms out there have a great day!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!

Making Rounds with Oscar by David Dosa, M.D.

This is a true story of a cat, Oscar, who warms everyone's heart at the Steere House in Rhode Island. Steere House is a nursing home and Oscar kind of oversees the residents. At first glance, you'd think Oscar was your typical cat, but he does something extraordinary. He visits patients who are about to die.

Dr. David Dosa has a problem buying into the idea that a cat can predict death. His diagnoses are based upon scientific reasoning. He conducts his own investigation. With the help of one of the nursing home's nurses, Mary, he interviews families who lost people due to dementia with Oscar by their side.

These stories are tender, sweet, sad and quite emotional - every emotion all rolled into one. It more than touches the readers' hearts...it touches their soul. It will bring both tears and smiles to all readers.

I read about Oscar in our newspaper several months ago and when I saw that a book was written about him, I knew I had to read it. I'm glad I did, Oscar made a difference in so many people's lives - he offered comfort and support when he was needed the most.

Book Giveaways - 9th Judgment by James Patterson

Thanks to the lovely people at Hachette Books, I am able to hold another audio book giveaway. This is for an audio of James Patterson's 9th Judgment. It's the 9th book in his Women's Murder Club series. I have 3 audio books to giveaway, so that's 3 winners!

A description from Amazon...

The most personal

A young mother and her infant child are ruthlessly gunned down while returning to their car in the garage of a shopping mall. There are no witnesses, and Detective Lindsay Boxer is left with only one shred of evidence: a cryptic message scrawled across the windshield in bloodred lipstick.

The most dangerous

The same night, the wife of A-list actor Marcus Dowling is woken by a cat burglar who is about to steal millions of dollars' worth of precious jewels. In just seconds there is a nearly empty safe, a lifeless body, and another mystery that throws San Francisco into hysteria.

The most exciting Women's Murder Club novel ever

Lindsay spends every waking hour working with her partner, Rich--and her desire for him threatens to tear apart both her engagement and the Women's Murder Club. Before Lindsay and her friends can piece together either case, one of the killers forces Lindsay to put her own life on the line--but is it enough to save the city? With unparalleled danger and explosive action, The 9th Judgment is James Patterson at his compelling, unstoppable best!

Book Giveaways - MEN AND DOGS: A NOVEL by Katie Crouch

Okay, another book giveaway! I can give away 3 audio versions of Men and Dogs: A Novel by Katie Crouch.

Here is a synopsis from Amazon.com...

Following her embraced debut, Girls in Trucks (2008), Crouch offers another southern tale in which Hannah Legare finds herself back in her hometown, Charleston Harbor, South Carolina, as her marriage, business, and life in San Francisco crumble. She soon begins to puzzle over an old mystery: her father Buzz’s mysterious disappearance more than 20 years earlier. Hannah retraces old ground, hoping to glean insights from the recollections of her mother, stepfather, brother, and family friends. Yet most residents of the town prefer to remember Buzz fondly, and view his disappearance during a routine fishing expedition as a tragic accident. Hannah, however, is still haunted by her father’s absence and the thought of the family dog drifting alone in the boat. Her quest to discover her father’s true fate provides clues to Hannah’s current problems, including her trouble being faithful to her husband, even as she realizes she may find information she never wanted to know. At least she will finally begin to piece together her own story. --Katherine Boyle

Book Giveaway - The Bride Collector by Ted Dekker

And yet another book giveaway from Hachette Books! This an audio giveaway for The Bride Collector by Ted Dekker. I can offer 3 audio books to 3 lucky winners!

Here's a synopsis from Ted Dekker's website:

He loves them because they are beautiful. He kills them because he loves them.

A virtuoso killer is carving a path of death across the west, intent on killing only the most beautiful women, all in the name of love. He has claimed six victims and slipped through the FBI’s fingers, each time leaving behind a hand written note and a bridal veil.

Special agent Brad Raines has hunted the Bride Collector from crime scene to crime scene, but each time finds himself one step behind. Desperate for help, Raines turns to the Center for Wellness and Intelligence, a private home for gifted, mentally-ill residents. There, he finds help in an unlikely group of four who eagerly agree to help him solve the case.

Raines is quickly drawn to an unlikely young woman named Paradise who struggles with psychosis. As they grow closer, he begins to see the world through her eyes. Together they enter the killer’s deadly game and begin to close in. But like Paradise, the Bride Collector is supremely gifted and he has a distinct advantage: This is his game.

Now Paradise will be pushed beyond her limits. She will learn what it means to be beautiful and what it means to love, really love. Full of surprising wit and hair-raising twists that will keep you riveted to the end, The Bride Collector will haunt you with a new way of looking at beauty, love and the world in which you live.
