The Weekend Review - July 4th - 6th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to  Stacking The Shelves which is hosted by Team Tynga's Reviews.

I really can't believe we are in the first week of July already, but here we are. I hope all of you celebrating July 4th are enjoying the holiday and staying safe.  We are staying home and watching fireworks on TV.  Not quite the same as being there in person, but it's safe here :)

Our Covid-19 cases keep rising.  It feels like no end in sight, so we are sticking close to home.  That's about all any of us can do at this point.

I continue to stock up on Kindle freebies for some crazy reason.  There's no way I will live long enough to read them all, but it's fun to collect them and I'm not hurting anyone.  I've been reading so many good books lately.  My Best of 2020 is going to be long.

I haven't been watching much TV as nothing has really been interesting to me lately.  I prefer my books.  Otherwise I'd have to watch the news and that's just way too depressing and aggravating.

So what have you all been reading and/or watching?  Anything good?

I hope you all have a great week! Stay safe!

  1. Books are definitely the answer to our current circumstances. We don't see much on TV, as we only have Basic TV here, and the Hallmark channels are already showing a lot of reruns...and Christmas movies! LOL.

I do enjoy going online, though, to Netflix and Amazon Prime.

I'm glad you are staying home and keeping safe!

  2. Staying home feels safest right now, I agree! And it is alarming seeing cases going up... hope you had a nice 4th though! It is hard to believe it's July already...

    The 12 Christmases looks fun...

  3. I am curious to hear what you think of Paris Is Always a Good Idea.

  4. I stay away from news. It's too bleak. I really struggled yesterday, but I'm determined to do better today. I got a huge stack of books and movies from curbside pickup at my library and that's what is keeping me afloat right now.

I need to go see what you thought of Paris is Always a Good Idea. It's a book I'm eager to read.

We don't have regular tv now; we only have a Roku with Amazon Prime and Netflix and PBS. I am hoping that the last season of The Good Place will be on Netflix soon.

    Glad you are staying safe!

  5. We watched fireworks from our balcony and it was nice though the distance was a bit odd. I'm watching the fireworks from Disney World tonight on my TV. Enjoy your books and have a good week.

  6. Staying home is definitely the best option right now, it's scary out there. I need to stop watching so much news and get back to reading. I have tons of Kindle freebies too just waiting to be read. Have a great Sunday!

  8. We are staying in as well in Pennsylvania- we were surprised to see one of our neighbors had about 20 cars lined up on the street for an outdoor July 4th party- didn't see anyone wearing masks. However, they did shoot off their own amazingly beautiful fireworks - as nice as any I've ever seen! it must have cost them a bundle. I'm reading alot too and enjoying our deck! Have a good week.

  10. I'm the opposite of you. I am having trouble reading but can find time for TV. I need the shows to be fun and or silly to really help out my mood though. My Sunday Salon post

  11. Yes, losing yourself in a good book is the only escape from this madness! Things are open but we are still self quarantining. Be safe and have a wonderful week!

  12. I haven’t been watching much TV either. There’s nothing on! Luckily, there are always books. Have a great week!

  13. I feel like we are going to have a long way to go until this is all over. Good idea to stock up on books. Have a great week! XO

  14. I recently binged on the Chicago franchise, my husband is gravitating to physical game shows like Ninja Warrior, Ultimate Beastmaster and Broken Skull Branch so we’ve been watching a lot of them.
I need to read more though!

Wishing you a great reading week, stay well x

  15. I've been reading mostly what I want to read instead of signing up for book reviews, but I do have a few review books coming up.

We went away for Independence Day, but there are no fireworks anywhere because of the pandemic. Such a strange time in our country.

I hope you enjoy your books. Like you, I'll never read all my Kindle freebies.

  16. The no end in sight when it comes to covid is one of the reasons it's so exhausting, I think! I absolutely dread a second spike here now they've thrown open the pubs and restaurants. :(

I wish I was reading at the moment, I'm in a bit of a slump, but I'm grateful that what I'm reading are all good ones... I'm also collecting more kindle freebies than I'll read but, as you say, it doesn't harm anyone.

Hope you have a good week!
