This week's topic is Authors You Wish Were Still Writing Today (These could be authors who have passed away or retired/are taking a long hiatus from writing. You could also spin this and share authors who have switched to a genre you’re not interested in.) (submitted by Rebecca @ Top100Books)
I decided to use my favorite cozy mystery genre, of course. This is based on series I loved that are no longer being written for one reason or another. It was sad doing this topic since most of the authors have passed away, a few even in recent years. But, it reminded me how good these stories were and still are.
Series: Black Cat Bookshop Mystery by Ali Brandon/a.k.a. Diane A.S. Stuckart
I always loved this series, but it was one that the publisher cutback on years ago. I always hoped the series would be revived somehow. Sadly, the author passed away a few months ago.
Series: The Dixie Hemingway Mystery by Blaize Clement
Another series I was enjoying, but sadly the author has passed.
Series: Midnight Louie by Carole Nelson Douglas
One of the early cat cozy mysteries I read was about Midnight Louie. A handsome black PI cat with attitude. Sadly, this author passed a few years ago too.
Series: Sunny & Shadow Mystery by Claire Donally
I read the first couple of books in this series and loved it. The last book was in 2016. I don't know whatever happened to the author, but I do wish this series had continued.
Series: Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade Mystery by JJ Cook (a.k.a. Joyce & Jim Lavene)
Joyce and Jim Lavene wrote many cozy mystery series. I loved everything they wrote. It was so sad when Joyce passed away and then Jim passed shortly after.
Series: Alice Nestleton Mystery by Lydia Adamson
Another one of the early cat cozy mystery series I was addicted to. This was before they were a genre unto themselves. They were simply known to be mysteries. This was back in the day where I binged them before we knew what binging was. The last book was released in 2002 and the author passed in 2015.
Series: A Perkins & Tate Mystery by Marian Babson
I was reading cat cozy mysteries before I knew they were a "thing". I loved this author's books. She passed in 2017. I still have quite a few to read.
Series: Regan Reilly Mystery by Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark
Not cozy mysteries, but they were a great mystery writing mother/daughter team. Excellent stories. Sadly they both have passed away.
Series: Joe Grey by Shirley Rousseau Murphy
One of my first cat cozy mystery series to read and the kitty talked! The kitty also reminded me of my Socrates, who was still with me at the time. I even had my husband addicted to this series and he's not much of a reader in the first place. The last book was written in 2019. I still have a few books to catch up with this series. Sadly, another author who has passed away.
Series: Susan Henshaw Mystery by Valerie Wolzien
An early cozy mystery series that I enjoyed. There were 16 books and the last one was released in 2005. I couldn't find anything about this author, so I don't know if she's still alive and/or still writing.
If you click on the title, it will take you to their Goodreads page.
What's on your list this week?
