Format:
E-ARC

Publisher:
Berkley

Release Date:

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Beth, Portia, and Eddie Morgan haven't all been together in years. And for very good reasons—we'll get to those later. But when their wealthy grandfather dies and leaves a cryptic final message in his wake, the siblings and their respective partners must come together for a cross-country road trip to fulfill his final wish and—more importantly—secure their inheritance.

But time with your family can be tough. It is for everyone.

It's even harder when you're all keeping secrets and trying to forget a memory—a missing person, an act of revenge, the man in the black truck who won't stop following your car—and especially when at least one of you is a killer and there's a body in the trunk. Just to name a few reasons.

But money is a powerful motivator. It is for everyone.

My Review

I’m not going to try and give you a summary of the book since the above synopsis does that so wonderfully. This is the story of a family. To say they are dysfunctional would be the understatement of the year.

He Started It is a family road trip for the ages. It’s a re-creation of a road trip the Morgan kids took with their grandfather when they were children. He wants them to do it all over again as adults and, if they succeed, they inherit his fortune. Money is a powerful motivator for these siblings.

These characters are far from lovable but they grab your interest and make you think. You just can’t turn away. I know I couldn’t. I had to try and figure out what was going on, but it was impossible to guess. There were so many twists and turns throughout the book. The ending just blew me away. I totally wasn’t expecting it, which is what makes this one of my favorite books of 2020. Any book that can shock me with that ending, is a winner to me.

I enjoyed the previous book by this author but this one really took my breath away. I enjoyed every minute of this journey with the Morgans.

  1. I have to either love the characters or love the plot and this sounds like I would absolutely not love the characters but I would love the plot! I do like a nice dysfunctional family saga.
