The Weekend Review - July 11th - 13th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to  Stacking The Shelves which is hosted by Team Tynga's Reviews.

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Not too much has happened over here.  Our COVID-19 numbers keep rising so we continue to stay at home.  We basically just go out for doctor appointments, pharmacy and groceries.  Disney has opened and I'm a bit nervous about that, but we'll see what happens.

I only read one book this week.  It's another one of those "I can't concentrate" weeks.  I have no idea why.  I've been trying to stay away from the news but it always seems to find me.  Not too much going on with watching TV or movies, either.

So, basically, I'm the same as I was last week :)  Since I'm in lockdown, there's not much new to report.  What's been going on in your part of the world?

I hope you all have a great week! Stay safe!

  1. We've just gone back into official lockdown again or another 6 weeks. It's quite disheartening really. I haven't read much in the last week. I need to figure out to get back to it.

  2. My life is almost exactly the same as it was last week. Our numbers have gone up to the extent that our county is averaging 100 new cases a day. The governor required masks but people are doing what they feel like doing. It's a mess.

Books and blogging have kept my mind off the news. I finished a history of Paris and, boy, was life in Paris turbulent?! It's somehow reassuring to see that Paris has had good leaders and bad leaders, wars and famines, and yet Paris continues on.

Risky Whisky? You read books with the best titles.

Hang in there. It's all we can do.

  4. I'm trying to avoid the news and just about everything else outside my little bubble. It isn't helpful as it's mostly just people arguing with each other. Shadow Garden has a great cover. I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of it. Have a great week.

  5. Some of my family live in Lake Mary and one has Covid. We had hoped to visit but yes the state is a mess, so we are staying home. I am loving your books and hope you enjoy them!

  6. I've had trouble concentrating since all this covid mess started, but fast-paced fun reads are within my reach. That seems to mean a lot of YA. I have friends who aren't able to read at all, so I'm thankful to be reading anything. I hope you find titles that get you reading again! Enjoy your week!

  7. These are scary times, so being distracted is an expected side effect. Hopefully staying home and being safe will help us beat this thing. If only everyone else would do the same!

Enjoy your books and your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  8. I've had too many "I count concentrate days" to count. When will this end? My Sunday Salon

  9. So sorry that your news is so bad:(. I don't think this is going away anytime soon... I have been looking for escapist reads to whisk me a long way away. I hope the coming week is a peaceful, healthy one for you, Yvonne:)

  10. I really don't understand why Disney is open now. Who wants photos of Cinderella or Mickey Mouse with a mask on?

  11. I think Disney opening is . . . not a great idea. My state is doing better than others, but I’m still only going out for exercise or to walk the dog. I’m staying far away from other people. Have a great week!

  12. The news is hard to avoid. And I'm not sure about Disney either. That seems risky. I'm still staying home as much as I can!

  13. Yes I know it is hard to avoid the news. Even though we have no active community transmission here in NZ, just cases in quarantine at the border, I still flick to CNN to see what's happening in the USA and then that makes me feel like I am in danger! Yes I don't like to see places like Disney opening just yet. Take care and read when you can.

  14. From what I’ve seen on Twitter about Disney I’d expect it to be a source of outbreak. Honestly staying at home as much as you can is the sensible choice.

Wishing you a great reading week

  15. We just stay home too. Our numbers are going up too.

  16. I've been very nervous, too, and it's been almost impossible to read lately.

  17. Stay safe! I try to avoid the news as much as I can. I found one source and look at that, and avoid Twitter and FB. Our state is currently holding its own after a terrible start, but we are still staying home as much as possible. That news about Disney sort of blew my mind. I feel sort of like here people are in the "happiest place on earth" while the citizens of the state are in such a terrible situation. Hang tight, and keep distracted as best you can. :)

  18. We were supposed to go to Orlando on holiday at the end of September, needless to say it has been cancelled, Ive seen the pics of WDW and I’d rather just stay here in Scotland. Besides I have no choice we aren’t allowed to fly to States at the minute anyway.

    Have a good week.

  19. I'm still in unofficial lockdown. My state had been doing better but now cases are increasing again. Like you, I only leave the house for essentials. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  20. Risky Whiskey looks cute! I'm back to work in our library building but on a reduced schedule with reduced staff. We're offering curbside pickup, which I'm glad about, but boy, our days in the building are exhausting and non-stop work! We do outdoor stuff, but I haven't made a hair appointment yet or gone to eat at a restaurant.

  21. I am curious how Disney is going to go too! I mean on one hand people have to work and have fun but on the other hand it's risky.

Risky, is just like trying to start up a new business in the midst of this crazy year, but I figure I either try and succeed or fail or wonder what might have happened if I would have tried.

Hope you have a great week!
