Book Beginnings on Fridays/The Friday 56 - May 7th

This is a fun meme to do hosted by Freda's Voice. If you'd like to join on the fun go to The Friday 56.

Rules:
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader.
*Find any sentence that grabs you.
*Post it.
*Link it here.

It's that simple.

I'm also joining in Book Beginnings on Friday. It's hosted by Rose City Reader

This week I'm listening to...

First Chapter

With lights flashing, an ambulance pulled up to the front door of La Vida Boca before screeching to a stop.  Prior to their arrival, the paramedics had disabled the siren out of deference to the three hundred elderly residents all of them in their eighties and nineties with a few centenarians mixed in.  It was wise not to startle them since only one stretcher fit in the back of the ambulance at a time.

From 56% on my Kindle...

"I'm afraid...someone...is trying...to kill me!"

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Old people were dying at an alarming rate at La Vida Boca, a posh assisted living facility in Boca Raton, Florida. With its sterling reputation, dedicated staff, and top-notch medical care, none of the deaths are considered suspicious, but when members of the poker club start to die under strange circumstances, attorney Jamie Quinn finds herself once again embroiled in a mystery. With help from her new friend, Jessie Sandler, and her favorite P.I., Duke Broussard, Jamie uncovers a crime that took place forty years earlier. Can she stop the killer in time? Or is she in danger of becoming the next victim?

After some careful consideration, I've decided to become an award-free blog. Although I appreciate and am honored by each and every award I've received, your comments and friendship are enough award for me. Thank you all so much for your thoughtfulness.

Due to way too many spam comments, I disabled the Anonymous User comments. We'll see if this works, otherwise I'll have to go back to word verification.
