Synopsis from the publisher:

A bomb explodes on a sunset charter cruise out of Friday Harbor at the height of tourist season and kills everyone on board. Now this fishing and boating community is in shock and asking who would commit such a heinous crime—the largest act of mass murder in the history of the San Juan Islands.

Was the explosion an act of domestic terrorism, or was one of the dead the primary target? That is the first question Special Agent Matt Costa, Detective Kara Quinn, and the rest of the FBI team need to answer, but they have few clues and no witnesses.

Accused of putting profits before people after leaking fuel endangered an environmentally sensitive preserve, the West End Charter company may itself have been the target. As Matt and his team get closer to answers, they find one of their own caught in the crosshairs of a determined killer.

My Review

After a bomb explodes on a charter cruise ship killing everyone onboard, Matt Costa’s Mobile Response Team is called in to investigate. There are several different possible culprits.  Matt and his team plan to investigate them all.

I won’t summarize the book as the publisher did a great job of that above. This is the third book in this series and it’s explosive, to say the least.  I’ve read the previous books and this one is my favorite.  The mystery is solved in this book, but I think the series can be more appreciated if read in order.  It gives the reader  a chance to follow Matt and Kara’s relationship, as well as get to know the team better.

It’s an intriguing police procedural that grabbed my attention right from the start.  There were a few spots along the way that I found to be a bit slow moving, but then the story really picked up.  The ending totally took me by surprise.

The author does a great job of developing these characters and writing an engrossing, twisty and compelling novel.  It kept me swiping pages on my Kindle until the very end.  It’s filled with mystery, intrigue and a touch of romance too.  It’s an exciting romantic suspense that keeps you on your toes.
