The Weekend Review - April 2nd - 4th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to  Stacking The Shelves which is hosted by Reading Reality.

Hi Everyone!

Can you believe we are in April already?  As usual, time is flying.  Here in my part of Florida, it's been humid with rain storms on and off.  I still managed to fit in a few walks with my new good friend Stanley Tucci 😁  For someone like me, who doesn't really cook, I'm really enjoying this.  Probably because I do like to eat.  LOL

I finished three books this week.  All were good.  I'm currently reading Not Your Child and I'm hooked and reading late into the night.  I didn't have any blog tours scheduled this past week but I do have a few this coming week.

I always try to watch all the Oscar nominated movies before the awards show, but this year I didn't get to watch them in time.  I did, however, watch a few after the awards - The Power of the Dog, King Richard, and West Side Story.  I liked all of them.  I really loved West Side Story.  I saw and loved the original many moons ago.  I watched another nominated movie a few months ago, Don't Look Up.  That wasn't bad.  I, also, watched a movie not nominated Death on the Nile.  I know it didn't do well in reviews, but I liked it.  It makes me want to go back and read some Agatha Christie books.  The only movie I seem to be having problems with is Dune.  I don't know why but it's not keeping my attention.  I tried twice, but I'll give it another shot.

I'm not going to mention anything about what happened at the awards show...there's already been more than enough said about it.  Crazy times to say the least.

With all these movies and my reading, I haven't watched any of my regular TV shows.  My DVR is getting full, but lately I just haven't been into my shows.

Have you read or seen anything good lately?  I hope everyone has a great week!

  1. The weather here has been so up and down. Warm for a couple days and then cold and rainy for a few before getting warm again until it's cold and rainy again. I don't mind so much, although I wish the weather would settle so I know whether I can take the extra blanket off the bed. LOL We saw West Side Story recently and loved it too. I hope you enjoy you reading and have a great week, Yvonne.

  2. I watched Dune in the theater opening night. (Actually, the night before it officially opened.) I found it dull and slow, so it's not just you. I was actually shocked it was nominated for best picture. I watched it because a friend wanted to watch it for his birthday. Otherwise, I would have skipped it.

  3. It's been cold here. I could use some heat although maybe not humidity. :) And I want to watch Tucci's new show, I've heard good things.

I want to see dearth on the Nile too. I just love it when they make lavish adaptations of mystery classics like that. :) I haven't tried Dune yet.

  4. Ooo well done on reading and watching so much! My favourite read of March was the historical-romance The Garment by Catherine Cookson, a lovely little escapist read, full of emotion and detail. I can't say I have watched anything I really loved though, but have enjoyed watching more Star Trek and Vera.

Take care and happy reading/viewing in April! 💐

  5. I'm glad you're enjoying Taste. Your comment reminded me of my love for Food Network. I hate cooking, but I could watch people cook all day.

  6. So many good books for me to check out further. I didn't know who Stanley Tucci was but I love to cook and eat so I'll see what that is about. We haven't gone to the movie theater in ages, but I saw West Side Story on tv and loved it. The young folks had great singing voices. My mom had the original music score on an LP vinyl and played it a lot when I was a kid so I knew the songs. I'd like to see King Richard for the content, not for Will Smith's benefit.
I love the cover of The Sweetest Thing. Enjoy reading this week!

  7. I'm so glad you picked up Stanley's book. Don't read on an empty stomach. Speaking of empty stomach, I've had some out of this world acid reflux and I thought I'd mention it in case you feel the same one day, because I learned the ER can provide you cocktails to help with that.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  9. Hi there Yvonne! I haven't seen any of the Oscar movies so far. And yes, let's rather not say anything. I think a few of the dresses this year was gorgeous though!!

Not your child now tickles my interest seeing that it keeps you up reading.

I need to start the Murder She Wrote series!

Have a good week and happy reading!

  10. I totally agree with you that the constant rehashing of the Academy Awards events is tedious and unenlightening. I also agree about Tucci's "Taste" -- I really enjoyed it, and reviewed it here:

  11. I am curious about the Stanley Tucci book. I enjoy his acting, and loved him in the Julia movie a few years ago.

Not Your Child looks good. Thanks for sharing, and here are my WEEKLY UPDATES

  12. I'm sorry you've have problems with the new Dune movie. I love it, but I think that's because Dune is my all-time favorite book and the movie was everything I wanted it to be and more. Sure, it had problems, but I'm okay looking past them because I love the story so much.

I'm considering reading Stanley Tucci's memoir for my IRL book club's "Memoir of Choice" in July.

I hope you have a good week.

  13. We are thankful all the snow has melted and we are able to get out and walk on bare sidewalks! Things are warming up, but seem reluctant to.

I also found Dune boring. I didn't care about the characters. I'm glad to hear you liked West Side Story. I also saw it long ago and loved it. I may have to give this one a try.

    Have a great week!

  15. In my part of Florida (near Tallahassee) it’s been stormy. Gloomy for several days in a row but today we have beautiful sunshine!
I like Tucci’s book. So many good stories & recipes.
Couldn’t get into Dune. If there’s a follow up I doubt I’ll watch.

  16. I feel super reluctant to watching West Side Story because I love the original, I just might have to give it a try.

  17. My part of Florida (near Tallahassee) has been stormy and when we finally get some sunny days I am so grateful! Pollen is bad up here too.

I liked Taste very much and I couldn't get into the movie Dune at all.

  18. I went to the movies this afternoon and saw The Lost City. It was funny--definitely entertaining! It's been rainy and mostly around 40 degree here in Chicagoland. booooo We should really have a bumper crop of May flowers!

  19. I used to watch all the Oscar nominated movies and now I usually haven't heard of any of them! The one I really want to see is Belfast.

  20. I just this week finished watching 373 hours of Campaign 1 of Critical Role. Now I am going to take a few weeks to get caught up on some favourite tv shows before I start Campaign 2!

Wishing you a great reading week

  21. We're still getting snow in my part of Minnesota. I am so longing for Spring. I can't tell you the last time I watched a movie. It has been years. I'm much more focused on reading and listening to books. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  22. I really liked the Stanley Tucci book. He seems like a great guy. I think we could be friends.

The only nominated movie I saw was Dune. I usually miss most of them until they pop up on a streaming service.

    Have a great week!

  23. Sounds like a good reading week, especially when you read late into the night. I haven't seen any of the Oscar movies. I thought about Power of the Dog but got hints that it is brutal in parts.

  24. I haven't watched any of my shows lately either. I finally got to start Bridgerton season 2 but I'm so far behind on The Walking Dead now >.<
