Life seems to be looking up... until the fickle universe decides to play another hand.

Suddenly, Kalie finds herself in an even more complicated situation when her rival suspiciously dies right in the middle of an argument with her. Worse, the handsome yet vexing detective investigating the murder turns out to be the cute guy she just met. And, he happens to believe magic is a hoax. My Review

When Kalie Kennedy’s lease for her new gift shop is canceled, she goes into a tailspin. She is scheduled to receive her first shipment in the next couple of days, but now she has nowhere for them to be delivered.  Thanks to her best friend, she learns of one vacancy, and she quickly grabs it.  The problem is it is rumored to be haunted.  The other problem is Sam Sullivan insists the shop is his and demands the owner give him a chance to get the money needed. The owner refuses and leases it to Kalie.  She’s thrilled, Sam’s not.

Sam wants Kalie gone.  He makes a last-ditch attempt at getting her to see reason and give the lease to him.  As they argue, Sam keels over and dies.  All eyes turn towards Kalie as the killer.  Even the handsome new detective thinks she did it.  With the help of her friends, Kalie looks for answers and hopes it will clear her name.

This is the magical prequel for the Mystic Village Cozy Mystery series and it’s off to a charming start.  The prequel introduces the reader to a quirky cast of characters, even a ghost and a few witches.  I, also, noticed some kitties running around.  I never read this author before, but this won’t be my last time.  I’m going to check out her backlist and the rest of this series.  They are enjoyable and left me smiling.
