Booking Through Thursday

booking through Thursday
I’ve asked, in the past, about whether you more often buy your books, or get them from libraries. What I want to know today, is, WHY BUY?
Even if you are a die-hard fan of the public library system, I’m betting you have at least ONE permanent resident of your bookshelves in your house. I’m betting that no real book-lover can go through life without owning at least one book. So … why that one? What made you buy the books that you actually own, even though your usual preference is to borrow and return them?
If you usually buy your books, tell me why. Why buy instead of borrow? Why shell out your hard-earned dollars for something you could get for free?
Good question and one my husband asks repeatedly...I mostly buy books, although I do go to the library as well, but 99% of my books are bought and most are brand new. Why? I think I'm addicted to going through bookstores and I can't seem to leave emptyhanded. I tried! I honestly tried, but I can't do it. LOL I love being the first one to read a book and - now this will sound strange, I know - but I love the smell and feel of a new book. I literally have 1000's in my TBR and most are brand new.
So, what do the rest of you do?

Thank you for stopping by and visiting my blog! I always love reading comments and getting to know my readers!
After some careful consideration, I've decided to become an award-free blog. Although I appreciate and am honored by each and every award I've received, your comments and friendship are enough award for me. Thank you all so much for your thoughtfulness.
Due to way too many spam comments, I disabled the Anonymous User comments. We'll see if this works, otherwise I'll have to go back to word verification.

I have the same bookstore problem. I try to stay out of them.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Thousands to read! I only keep 2-4 at a time that I need to read, I'd end up feeling pressured to read all those books at once. I also love the smell and feel of a new book. Thanks for visiting my blog :)
ReplyDeleteYou don't sound a bit strange to me. That's one reason why I try to avoid bookstores! lol Here's my answer:

Oh! It is so stinking hard to walk out of a bookstore empty handed!
ReplyDelete1000?! Wow!
I can't seem to pass up a bookstore even when I am in a vacation!
ReplyDeleteMust buy!
oh, I LOVE to buy books. haha. I usually only keep the ones that I think I will read again....which for now is ALL of them!! I am a silly.
ReplyDeleteSomeone like me! I sometimes wonder if the bookstores have secretly injected me with some sort of homing device that draws me in every time I come too close to a bookstore. And then, of course, I can't walk out without something! That just wouldn't be right! ;-)
