Synopsis from Goodreads:

Asked to accompany Mrs. Roosevelt on her Pacific Island tour, Agnes and Katherine travel by train to Washington, D.C. Agnes carries a package for Colonel Farthingworth to President Roosevelt.

Convinced the package contains secret war documents, Agnes expects Nazi spies to try and derail her mission.

She meets Irving, whose wife mysteriously disappears from the train; Nanny, the unfeeling caregiver to little Madeline; two soldiers bound for training as Tuskegee airmen; and Charles, the shell-shocked veteran, who lends an unexpected helping hand. Who will Agnes trust? Who is the Nazi spy?

When enemy forces make a final attempt to steal the package in Washington, D.C., Agnes must accept her own vulnerability as a warrior on the home front.

Can Agnes overcome multiple obstacles, deliver the package to the President, and still meet Mrs. Roosevelt’s plane before she leaves for the Pacific Islands?

Mrs. Odboddy: Undercover Courier is a hysterical frolic on a train across the United States during WWII, as Agnes embarks on this critical mission.

My Review

Mrs. Odboddy and her granddaughter, Katherine, are on their way to Washington DC to meet Mrs. Roosevelt. They will be accompanying her on her Pacific Island tour, but their cross country train ride is not without mishap.

To start things off, Mrs. Odboddy is asked to deliver a top secret package to the President. She guards the package with her life, but she sees danger at every turn. She’s sure there are thieves on board ready to steal the package from her. There’s no way she’s going to let that happen. Everywhere she looks, she runs into another shady character. Katherine is afraid it’s all in her grandmother’s head, but Mrs. Odboddy is convinced these are very real threats.

The author takes readers on a wild train ride through the difficult war times surrounding WWII. Her descriptions are very real and vivid. As I read this book, she put me right into that era. I felt as if I were actually back in that time, going through all the turmoil associated with that period. Elaine Faber does an excellent job of including all the details involved and bringing it all to life.

The characters are quirky to say the least. Mrs. Odboddy is not your typical grandmother – she can be rude and belligerent, but also very warm and loving.

It’s a unique take on the cozy mystery genre. The story is fast-paced, filled with many twists and turns to keep your head spinning. I loved the first book in this series and I love this one even more. I’m looking forward to meeting up with Mrs. Odboddy again in the near future.
