The Weekend Review - November 14th-16th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to  Stacking The Shelves which is hosted by Team Tynga's Reviews.

Hi Everyone!

I can't believe it's the middle of November already.  I was looking to see what reviews I have due in December and I just couldn't believe how fast time was flying.

I'm still finding it hard to concentrate on my reading, but I'm getting there.  I started a book this week for a blog tour called We Hear Voices by Evie Green.  It's a sci-fi, thriller type dealing with a pandemic.  I wasn't sure if I'd be able to deal with that right now, but I have to say, this book has totally grabbed my attention.  I'm addicted to it.  I'm only halfway through so I hope the rest is just as good.

I was looking over my Goodreads challenge and I'm 24 books behind my goal.  There's no way I'll complete it by the end of the year.  It's the second year in a row I didn't make it.  Last year, I was busy moving to Florida and this year the pandemic and losing my kitties have thrown my reading off.  Oh well, I'll just try again next year, although I'm not totally giving up on this year but it's a longshot.

I've also been thinking about the three reading challenges I traditionally host each year - Cruisin' thru the Cozies, The Purrfect Reading Challenge and What An Animal Reading Challenge.  I'm pretty sure I will once again host them next year.  Aside from the Cruisin' challenge, I didn't even complete the other two but there's still time.  I do enjoy challenges, even if I don't always complete them.

Several of my TV shows returned - The Good Doctor, This Is Us, Chicago Med, Fire and PD, Grey's Anatomy, Station 19 and The Blacklist.  I haven't watched them all this week yet, but I watched most and enjoyed them.

That's about it from here.  So, what has your week been like?  I hope you all have a great week!

  2. My reading has been so down. I'm hoping I can rebound a bit though with some holiday mysteries or something- we'll see haha! And that Evie Green book sounds like something I'd like.

  3. I'm glad you found a book that keeps your mind off everyday worries, books are a precious help and good companions. Hugs from France :-*

  4. I'm so happy the shows are returning! It seems that all I've watched since February is HGTV.

I'm really good at joining challenges but terrible at doing them. I hope to do better in 2021.

  5. I’m glad you have found a book to enjoy. It’s good news that the shows have all returned on time, I was wondering if there might be a few delays.

Wishing you a great reading week

  6. Glad you are enjoying We Hear Voices - I was tempted, but don't think I can cope with a story about a pandemic right now. I hope you have a great reading week, Yvonne:))

  7. What a lovely graphic for Cookie at the top op your scroll bar. It's lovely Yvonne. You've been on my mind this whole week.

I need to start looking for a few fun holiday reads for December and I saw Holiday Homicide is for free. Will have a look!

Hope you will have a good week Yvonne. Be kind to to yourself.

  8. My reading has been down this year, due to 'the-pandemic-that-shall-not-be-named' and the ensuing crazyness that has come with it! Managing to get my numbers up a little this month, as I am taking part in the reading event: Novellas in November. Lots of short and sweet reads. I hope you continue to enjoy reading We Hear Voices and viewing all your favourite shows. Take care. 🙂

  9. I started the Goodreads Reading Challenge this year, but then I gave up and decided to just read whatever. Watching shows helps keep me on a calm path. Sort of. I love This Is Us, Grey's Anatomy, and Station 19. So glad for the normalcy they provide.

I just got an email about The Crown's new season being available now! Yippee.

I am eyeing the book Are We There Yet?

    Enjoy your week!

  10. I've heard a lot about We Hear Voices, and I'm glad to know that you are enjoying it.

I started out way behind in my Goodreads challenge, but then I began to read like crazy, and now I'm way over goal.

I love doing challenges, even when I don't succeed with them.

  13. Sorry that you’re not going to hit your goal. I didn’t reach mine last year, but I read some awesome books, so I tried not to be mad about it. I hope you have a great week!

Aj @ Read All The Things!

  14. I have my eye on We Hear Voices. I'll watch for your review. I finished my Goodreads challenge but it was only half the amount of books I usually challenge myself to.

  15. The only challenge I do each year is at Goodreads. I've increased my goal twice already there but should be able to make my new goal. The cold weather has me reading more. You do have a nice looking assortment of books to choose from. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  16. I am glad you are enjoying We Hear Voices. I surpassed my Goodreads goal early on--but then, I set it really low (24 books) on purpose, knowing I would read a lot more. If I wasn't also adding in the books I read with my daughter, I wouldn't be as high as I am now. It hasn't been the best reading year number's wise.

I hope you have a good week, Yvonne. Enjoy your books!

  17. A goal is only a goal! the Evvie Green book sounds really good, wonder how it compares to the pandemic we have at the moment.

  18. I haven't been joining reading challenges, but other kinds of challenges work for me. This year I'm doing NaNoWriMo and challenging myself to complete a 50,000-word first draft of a novel by the end of November. I'm nowhere near on target, but I'm doing more writing than ever before, so I will take that as a win, even if I don't hit the goal. As long as you enjoy joining and hosting challenges, go for it! I'm planning to read Paul Tremblay's new book about a pandemic, Soul Survivor, as soon as I can get to it (probably not till December, at this rate!) and am hoping it won't hit too close to home.

  19. I've seen The Last to See Her all over and plan to put a request in for it. Yeah, this year has just been off. I will not make my goal either.

  20. What a difference a year makes, I wonder if this time next year will be better after the vaccine starts to do the rounds. I’ll have a look a your cosy book challenge. I love a cosy mystery!
