Musing Mondays - Happy July 4th!

This week’s musing asks…

Below is a link to an NPR discussion about the simple fact that there’s no way you can read, see and experience all the things that are available to be experienced. The two methods for dealing with it are culling (i.e., cutting out certain genres that don’t interest you, etc.) or surrender (i.e., just making peace with the facts and enjoying what you can in the time that you have).

So, do you cull, or do you surrender? Or do you do both?

My answer...

I kind of do both, especially now that I'm trying to clean up my incredibly large and ridiculous TBR.

I started with culling and I pretty much don't read genres I'm not interested in and, unless it really attracts my attention, I don't even accept them for reviews. I do make exceptions, though, but overall I'm not into fantasy or historical books (unless they are western romances, I like those).

Now, I'm surrendering by donating alot of books that interest me but I know there are just not enough hours in the day. Mainly I'm surrendering older books from the genres that I love. I figure it's best to keep and read newer books although there are many times an older book is fun to read too.

So, I'm guessing I'm a bit of both. How about you?

    My dad's favorite genre was westerns. Me on the other hand, I'm not crazy about them!

    I do both as well. And thank you for donating books -- places like the Salvation Army and Goodwill are great places, and I'm glad that you're passing on the reading love. :)

    I'm mostly culling, but sometimes I surrender, too. Happy 4th of July!

    I am all for culling..so long as you make some exceptions. I think every genre has some winners.
