Book Beginnings on Fridays/The Friday 56 - January 14th

This is a fun meme to do hosted by Freda's Voice. If you'd like to join on the fun go to The Friday 56.

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader.
*Find any sentence that grabs you.
*Post it.
*Link it here.

It's that simple.

I'm also joining in Book Beginnings on Friday. It's hosted by Rose City Reader

I'm almost finished reading this one.  Excerpts are from the E-ARC.

First Chapter

I get so bored sometimes, I think I will do anything to stop it.  I decide to make Graham dinner.  He blames me for what happened.

From 56% on my Kindle...

The officers look too ordinary to be cops.  They have no necks.  Their hair smells oily.  They seem distracted and confused by their own roles.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Lyla has always believed that life is a game she is destined to win, but her husband, Graham, takes the game to dangerous levels. The wealthy couple invites self-made success stories to live in their guesthouse and then conspires to ruin their lives. After all, there is nothing worse than a bootstrapper.

Demi has always felt like the odds were stacked against her. At the end of her rope, she seizes a risky opportunity to take over another person’s life and unwittingly becomes the subject of the upstairs couple’s wicked entertainment. But Demi has been struggling all her life, and she’s not about to go down without a fight.

In a twist that neither woman sees coming, the game quickly devolves into chaos and rockets toward an explosive conclusion.

Because every good rich person knows: in money and in life, it’s winner take all. Even if you have to leave a few bodies behind.

What do you think?  What are you sharing today?

  1. Ooooh I just saw this discussed on CrimeReads and I'm desperate to read it now! Love the quotes as well, the opening definitely gives you a lot of room for interpretation. I hope you have a lovely weekend :)

  2. This sounds twisty and intense. I have a feeling I won't like any of the characters much. Not that it's a bad thing--I don't expect to in books like this. I will have to check this one out. Have a great weekend, Yvonne!

  3. It sounds very different from a lot of other books! So intriguing! Have a great weekend@

  4. I'm so intrigued!!! Happy weekend!

  5. I'm curious about this one. I don't love the teasers of this but the blurb sounds super interesting.
