The Weekend Review - November 12th-14th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to  Stacking The Shelves which is hosted by Reading Reality.

Hi Everyone!

We narrowly missed Hurricane Nicole over here.  We've been extremely lucky this year.  Aside from a few blown leaves and branches, we had nothing damaging here.  I'm hoping this is finally the end of the storm season.

Question for those with Blogger - Lately I've been getting notices about spam comments that need my approval.  It's not unusual, but what is unusual is that they are older comments going back as far as 2010.  They are all from regular commentors, so none are really spam.  What I'm confused about is that they are such old comments.  Where did they suddenly pop up from?  Anyone else getting this?

I finished two books this week.  I'm all caught up on my TV shows.  Hopefully that means more reading time for me.

I set up all the reading challenges I host for 2023.  With my husband's surgery coming up, I just wanted to make sure I got them done and out of the way, even though it's a bit early.  Although I've noticed many have already started posting 2023 challenges.  If anyone wants to go ahead and join, the links are in the sidebar.

Not much else is going on around here.  How have you all been?  Anything new going on?  I hope everyone has a great week!

  1. Not on blogger, but sometimes when they push through an update it causes things like that.

  2. I don't use Blogger so I can't give you advice. I wonder, though, if with the new commenting system if some of your old comments are being flagged as SPAM. I wouldn't think they'd just show up now after all this time, but I could be completely wrong.

Good job on catching up on all your shows and 2023 reading challenges! And, I'm glad H. Nicole missed you.

  3. Well done on getting all your challenges set up. I need to work on mine and get ready for the sign ups to go up later this month.

  4. Wow! I'm from England so I've never even came close to experiencing a hurricane, it sounds terrifying (even if you narrowly missed it!)

It's good that you're so prepared for next year, even if you find don't need it at the time it'll let you relax more over the Christmas period <3

The title "A book club to die for" made me giggle, it's not a title you'd expect to read. Whichever book you pick I hope you enjoy it :)

  5. lol, I still get spam notices on my blog years later. I don't know what to make of it. I'll pick "A Holiday by Gaslight" good blend of historical and Christmas perhaps. I guess the Hallmark channel has been picking up a lot as the interest in these movies has not waned despite their similar thematic qualities(wink).

  6. I’m glad you avoided any hurricane damage.
I’m just starting to think about what challenges I will participate in next year.

Wishing you a great reading week

  7. I haven't noticed older comments getting marked as spam, but new comments from regular commenters get marked as spam all the time. It's irritating. A lot of things about Blogger are irritating. :)

  8. I'm glad you missed Hurricane Nicole. Hurricanes are not something to mess with.

I started using Disqus for commenting, so I don't really have Blogger comments any more.

It's wonderful that you have already set up your challenges for next year!

  12. I'm glad the hurricane missed you. I use blogger and have noticed comments on old posts too.

  13. I wish all the Blogger bloggers would switch to Disquis for comments, only because I don't know where to go to see if there are any replies to the comments I have left on a Blogger blog. LOL The only way I can check to see if a blogger has replied is if I subscribe via email (NO!) or remember to go back to that particular blog post and I never remember to do that. But that's my problem, not yours. LOL

I'm glad the hurricane missed you!!! It's horrible seeing video of people's homes filled with water and all their furniture and stuff floating around in it. There was one video where the people's swimming pool was pushed up out of the ground by the force of the ocean or bay or whatever they live next to in Florida.

  14. Glad you've missed the worst of the weather! It must be nerve wracking at times worrying about the hurricanes and where they'll hit. As far as Blogger- I've had a lot of comments going to spam, often from regulars, but for me it hasn't been older ones neeeding approval- just random comments going to spam, which is weird.

  16. A good load of books there. It is good to be organised 😊 glad that the hurricane missed you. I can't imagine how scary that must be.

Have a good week next week.

  17. I'm glad the hurricane wasn't too bad for you. I use Blogger. I recently found one of my own comments (a reply to someone else's comment on my blog) in spam and I had to approve it. That was bizarre. You would think my own blog knows me by now. LOL. Thank you for setting up all the challenges for next year. I'll definitely do the cozy one again and I'll sign up soon. Have a great week! :-)

  20. So glad that Nicole missed you! Such a great idea to go on and get everything organized. I hope your husband's surgery goes as smoothly as possible. Have a wonderful week and enjoy your books!

  21. I just checked my Comments and found 61 in the Spam folder some from 2014 and earlier. I approved the recent ones and deleted the older ones. I have no idea why this is happening. I'll have to remember to check that folder more often. I'm glad Nicole missed you. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

Thank you for stopping by and visiting my blog! I always love reading comments and getting to know my readers!

After some careful consideration, I've decided to become an award-free blog. Although I appreciate and am honored by each and every award I've received, your comments and friendship are enough award for me. Thank you all so much for your thoughtfulness.

Due to way too many spam comments, I disabled the Anonymous User comments. We'll see if this works, otherwise I'll have to go back to word verification.
