The Weekend Review - October 12th-14th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to Stacking the Shelves which is hosted by Reading Reality.

Hi Everyone!

What a week!  We were very lucky here and we didn't get hit with Hurricane Milton.  The other side of Florida was hit pretty hard.  My heart goes out to everyone dealing with the aftermath.  Here we had some rain and wind, but nothing like what others are dealing with.  We had many Tropical Storm, Cyclone, and tornado warnings.  We were fortunate they didn't hit us, but others nearby are still dealing with the destruction.  It's just awful.

For me, I've been inside all week watching the storm coverage.  Our TV networks were all Hurricane Milton coverage 24/7.  Now we have heavy rains so I'm still inside.

I only finished one book this week.  It should have been more, but I was distracted with the storm.  Even though it didn't hit here, we had to prepare for it.  The reports kept changing all the time, so we weren't always sure we'd get it or not.

Things should be much calmer this week.  Still looks like a rainy week, but I don't see any big storms in the forecast.   I hope everyone has a great week!

These are the books on my October reading schedule.

Here is this week's Kindle freebie haul.  They were freebies when I got them, I don't know if they still are. Always make sure to check they are still free before buying. The prices change quickly.

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about the devastation caused by Hurricane Milton. It's heartbreaking to see the destruction and the impact it's having on people's lives.

I'm glad you and your family were safe from the storm. It's great that you were able to stay informed and prepared.

  3. Just knowing there is a hurricane in the Gulf puts me on alert. I can't seem to calm down until the storm has passed. It's terribly frightening. I am so sorry for all the people who are suffering from the storms this year. We just got our fence replaced from the July hurricane that blew through here.

  12. Those titles sound fun and quirky - I especially like Granny's Got a Gun :D Thanks for sharing - glad you made it unscathed through the hurricanes!

  13. Glad you didn't have any damage! We didn't have any damage, just no electric. They said it would take a few weeks to get it back on but my daughter in law who lives next door messaged us (we were trying to find some ice at the time but all the stores were out) and said that it just came back on. I feel so bad for the people in town who had flooded houses etc. and those who have to travel the flooded roads.

  14. Hurricane Milton spared our home, but I feel so bad for all those impacted... this has been a brutal season. My stomach was in knots all week with the coverage and then waiting for word of our damage. Your books look good this week!

  19. Great hurricane didn't go you way, but I guess still tense times. Also seeing how others were getting hit is awful. May a quieter week and reading happen.

  20. It's definitely hard to relax and read when you're worried. Even though sometimes that might be the best thing to do for the sake of our mental health! Granny's Got a Gun looks fun!
