Blog Tour: Kingdom Come by Jane Jensen (Review/Giveaway)

About the Book

Genre: Mystery, #1, An Elizabeth Harris Mystery Series
Publisher: Berkley
Release Date: January 2016

Synopsis from Goodreads...

Amish country in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, has always been a place of quiet beauty—until a shocking murder shatters the peace, and leaves a troubled detective picking up the pieces…

After her husband is murdered, Detective Elizabeth Harris turns in her NYPD badge and moves back home, hoping that a quiet life in remote Pennsylvania Dutch country will help her overcome the dark memories of her ten years in New York. But when a beautiful, scantily clad “English” girl is found dead in the barn of a prominent Amish family, Elizabeth knows that she’s uncovered an evil that could shake the community to its core.

Elizabeth’s boss is convinced this was the work of an “English,” as outsiders are called in Lancaster County. But Elizabeth isn’t so sure. All she’s missing is an actual lead—until another body is found: this time, a missing Amish girl. Now Elizabeth must track down a killer with deep ties to a community that always protects its own—no matter how deadly the cost…

My Review

Former NYPD Detective Elizabeth Harris leaves the big city after her husband is murdered. She moves to her hometown in the Pennsylvania Dutch country, but all is not very quiet there. A beautiful, young girl is found dead in the barn of an Amish family and Elizabeth is determined to discover the truth about the young girl’s death. Instead, she finds another dead body.

The Amish, as well as Elizabeth’s boss, are sure an outsider killed these girls. Elizabeth feels the killer could be Amish. As the Amish rally around to support each other, Elizabeth finds herself romantically drawn to one of them. Unfortunately, he is a person of interest in the case and she needs to stay as far away from him as she can.

Kingdom Come is an intense, suspense novel with powerful topics. It involves religious beliefs, abuse and murder. The book got off to a slow start for me, but then it picked up speed. I became engrossed in the storyline and trying to figure out who the killer could be. I finished this in only a couple of days, which is fast for me.  It reminded me of watching a CSI episode as Elizabeth slowly tears away each layer of the mystery to get to the truth. I was intrigued and captivated with this one. I’ll definitely be on the look out for book #2.
