This week's question...
Do you prefer reading current books? Or older ones? Or outright old ones? (As in, yes, there’s a difference between a book from 10 years ago and, say, Charles Dickens or Plato.)
My answer...
I definitely prefer current books. I don't read classics at all...although recently I did read Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice. That's certainly a classic and excellent, but even with those books, I seem to prefer the modern day versions or sequels to her novels.
I don't really consider books from 10 years ago to be "older". I still read those as they are in my TBR. The only real difference (since I only read fiction) is the use of technology has tremendously increased over the years. I have some romances and mysteries written in the 80's/90's and early 00's when either people didn't have their own computers or certainly not their own cellphones. I love reading books like that because it reminds me of simpler times. LOL
Overall, modern books get my vote. How about you?

I agree with you, 10 year old books aren't old to me. I just recently read "The Carpenter's Lady" by Barbara Delinsky, which she wrote in 1983. It was refreshing, bringing back memories of running to answer the phone, and my old typewriter. It was a fun read.
ReplyDeleteI gravitate to the newly released books sadly. I wish this wasn't the case with me ut I can't wait to discuss the latest books and movies too :(
ReplyDeleteI am a modern reader myself. I do like the occasional classic though.
ReplyDeleteI love this question - everyone has such interesting answers. Here's mine.
ReplyDeleteI tend toward newer books to, although I try to read "classics" occasionally. Alright, probably do more of the trying than the actual reading.
ReplyDeleteI prefer my books to have some age on them! Here is my answer on Rose City Reader.
ReplyDeleteI tend to love best sellers but I read all kinds, much older books can be hard to read and sometimes take forever to get through, I don't mind that sometimes.
