The Weekend Review - December 4th-6th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to  Stacking The Shelves which is hosted by Reading Reality.

Hi Everyone!

It's been a fairly quiet week.  The weather in Florida has been nice which gave me some more time for listening to audio books.

Last Monday was my birthday.  My husband took me out for dinner.  I got a beautiful new pocketbook, a new Kindle Paperwhite and a new Kindle Fire.  I did well this year 😁  I can't wait to start playing with them.

I finished two books this week.  Not too bad.  I joined a few challenges hosted by others - Alphabet Soup, Literary Escapes, Cloak & Dagger and Craving for Cozies.  There are still two more I want to join that I joined last year - The Backlist Reader and The European Reading Challenge.  I don't know if those hosts will be hosting again, but I'll be on the lookout for them.  Even though I haven't completed all my challenges, I still enjoy doing them.  I think I might actually complete my Goodreads challenge this year, but I still have a few more to read.

I just started watching a show on the National Geographic channel "The Hot Zone:  Anthrax".  It stars Daniel Dae Kim and Tony Goldwyn.  Pretty good so far.  We'll see how it goes.  I recorded a bunch of Hallmark movies but haven't had a chance to watch them yet.  Honestly, I've been more interested in reading these days.

So, I'm writing this on Saturday (December 4th).  This is "Gotcha Day" for Cookie and Oreo.  I can't believe it's been a year since we adopted them.  My oldest, Kit, still isn't thrilled but they keep trying to win her over.  Cookie and Oreo are still close sisters.

Not much else is going on around here.  What's new with you?  I hope everyone has a great week.  Take care and stay safe.

  1. Love the picture of Cookie and Oreo! So glad you've had nice weather! Audio books have really been saving me lately though lately I've been wanting to read more and tv hasn't been grabbing me. I do love the Hallmark Christmas movies though! Have a wonderful week!

  3. I'm glad you had a good birthday. It's hard to have a birthday at this busy time of year. You got some fabulous gifts.

I hope you will read A Zen for Murder next. I like that setting.

I'm still thinking about challenges for 2022, too.

  5. Super jelly of your bed's backboard. I love all things rustic and I'd assume I'd live in a forest if it meant I could have all that wood, artificial or otherwise. Great cozy mysteries.

  7. It sounds like you had a perfect birthday! Hope you have had some time to play with your new toys 🙂.

Our weather has been pretty nice, but it is turning more winterlike today. It is snowing and blowing.

  10. Happy birthday!! Sounds like good gifts! :)

I like the sound of the challenges too- I did Cloak and Dagger a few years ago, I should rejoin.

My Darling Husband looks good and so does Nanny.

I hope The secret of Snow is good. The Michigan setting appeals to me...

  12. Happy birthday and happy gotcha day to the furry ones. Our two oldest want nothing to do with the two youngest. Different genders probably doesn't help--oldest are girls and youngest are boys.

Your holiday books all caught my eye because I am in the mood. Hope you enjoy your reading.

  13. Happy belated birthday! Do you prefer the Fire or the Paperwhite and why? I ask because my manager is thinking of getting an e-reader. I have an old, old, old Fire so I am curious about newer generation readers myself!

    Your kitties are too cute.

    1. For reading books, I prefer a Kindle Paperwhite or Kindle Oasis. The eink that is used is more like reading a physical book. With the Fire, there is more of a glare but it's good for reading magazines and doing other things like going online or watching Netflix, etc.

  14. Your weather makes a move to Florida really tempting. How do you keep track of your challenges? I sign up and then forget about them which is sort of useless. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. I keep track of my challenges on my blog. I have one page for each challenge. Then at the top I have a tab for all the challenges and keep track there. It probably is too much work, but I do enjoy participating in them. Have a great week!

  15. The Secret of Snow! One I have and am looking forward to reading.
