Book Beginnings on Fridays/The Friday 56 - April 25th

This week I'm joining in Book Beginnings on Friday. It's hosted by Rose City Reader.  This is where we post the beginning of the books we are reading or will be reading.

I'm also joining in for the Friday 56.

Freda at Freda's Voice started and hosted The Friday 56 for a long, long time. She is taking a break and Anne at My Head if Full of Books has taken on hosting duties in her absence. Please visit Anne's blog and link to your Friday 56 post.

Rules:
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader.
*Find any sentence that grabs you.
*Post it.
*Link it here.

It's that simple.

This is the second book in the series.  I enjoyed the first one so I'm giving this one a try.  I'm halfway through and enjoying it too.

Book Beginnings

Christmas was coming, and Gertrude didn't have all her shopping done yet.  Actually, she didn't have any of her shopping done yet.  But she really only had to shop for her sister Harriet, and she wanted to get something for Isaiah and Elijah, two little boys from her church.

This is at chapter 2 on my e-reader.  I didn't want to give away any spoilers so I decided to give a "56" from early in the book.

"You should be happy to see me," Gertrude said to Hale.  "I know what the murder weapon was, and someone here moved it, because it's gone."

Synopsis from Goodreads:

"Don't call me elderly!" Gertrude is still feeling confident after her first gumshoe victory. So when she finds a murder victim at her local thrift store, she is excited to tell the Sheriff's Department everything she's learned at the scene of the crime. Unsurprisingly, they don't listen. So Gertrude must solve the mystery herself. And the only way she can figure to do this is to go undercover--as the Mattawooptock Thrifty-Help's newest team member. Anyone who knows Gertrude knows this probably isn't the best idea. She'll probably get fired. Or arrested. Or worse. (This is Book 2 of the Gertrude, Gumshoe Cozy Mystery Series)

What do you think?  What are you sharing today?

Thank you for stopping by and visiting my blog! I always love reading comments and getting to know my readers!

After some careful consideration, I've decided to become an award-free blog. Although I appreciate and am honored by each and every award I've received, your comments and friendship are enough award for me. Thank you all so much for your thoughtfulness.

Due to way too many spam comments, I disabled the Anonymous User comments. We'll see if this works, otherwise I'll have to go back to word verification.
