Musing Mondays - Gift Certificates

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about gift certificates… Do you give gift certificates to book stores as presents? If so, do you give for actual stores or online stores? Do you like to receive them yourself?

Yes, I do give gift certificates for books. Usually I give them to Amazon.com. For the people I give them to, it's easier for them to just go online and choose whatever books they like.

As for me, I love receiving bookstore gift certificates and I don't care if they are online or actual stores :)

My personal feeling is not to give actual books as gifts because I never know what someone may have read already or what someone wants. I feel that books are a personal gift and people should choose whatever they'd like :) I've received books as gifts in the past and they were either a book I already read or had or something I wasn't the least bit interested in reading. To me, books are a very personal thing.

  1. Such an adorable kitty photo! I'm like you, I enjoy giving gift certificates for bookstores as gifts, not to mention receive them myself. It's hard to know what someone has read or may already, especially if they are a book collector like me.

  2. I give book gift certificates too, rather than actual books. There is nothing bettr than going and browsing around a bookstore with a voucher in your pocket.

  3. I agree. . .I usually make a list for someone to choose from when buying a book for me. It's just easier. But like you, I love getting the gift card. I can either buy something from my wish list or buy a "new discovery".

  4. I like to give book gift certificates too, but just wish more people in my life enjoyed reading as much as I do. I LOVE getting gift cards too. Especially from Amazon!

  5. I like to give gift certificates to bookstores - I try to give my niece an early Christmas one because I know she uses it to shop for Christmas gifts. And for me, a gift certificate to a book store or fabric store is pure bliss.

  6. I like giving gift certificates as well. Like you, I feel books are a personal choice and that way the person can pick what's right for them. I like Indigo/Chapters here in Canada-the gift certificates are good for either in store or online.
