Musing Mondays - Note Taking

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about note taking…

Do you take notes while reading – either for your reviews or for yourself? How/where do you make these notes (on the page, post-its, scrap paper, notebooks etc)?

My answer...

No, I don't take notes. When I write reviews, I do them while I still have the book and I just go back through the pages and look for things. Basically, if I write the review right after I read a book, I can do it from memory. I prefer writing my reviews when the book is still fresh in my mind.

  1. When I started reviewing online, I began keeping notes as I read. For some books more than others. At least for the first part of books. I find it helpful even if I don't refer back to my notes when I write a review. Sometimes just writing it down in the first place helps my memory. Like you, I tend to write my reviews when I first finish a book so that may be why I don't always need my notes as well. Sometimes though I like to jot how I am feeling about a particular scene or mark down a page number of a passage that I especially liked. I wouldn't remember that without noting it down.

  2. hmmm...maybe I could get that cat to write my reviews...I wonder if he/she takes notes...

I am not a notetaker. I am a Post-it pointer, using those little post-it flags to mark certain points, some of which actually prove useful when I look back at them.

  3. I will use sicky notes if I want to remember a quote or passage, but normally just want to read.

I know my cat is smarter than me!

  4. I do take notes because otherwise I forget things, especially observations I want to remember. I use a steno flip pad, so it's not too bulky or cumbersome.

  5. I need my notepad to remember things or I'd be lost.

  6. You are awesome - I know I do better when the book is fresh in my mind too, but I seem to procrastinate all the time.
