The Weekend Review - January 4th - 6th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to  Stacking The Shelves which is hosted by Team Tynga's Reviews.

Happy Weekend!

Happy 2020!  I hope you all had a great holiday.  Mine was very nice and low key...just the way I like it :)

I've been getting busier on the blog lately and it looks like the new year will be just as busy.  I did manage to complete three books this week.

I finished the year with 87 books read.  I fell short of my Goodreads goal of 100, but I signed up again for 2020.  This is actually the first year since 2012 that I read so few books.  I'm not sure what was going on in 2012, but hopefully 2020 will go better.

I ended the year reading two adorable cat cozy mysteries and loved them.  I started the year reading a cozy mystery by Denise Swanson - Come Homicide or High Water.  She was one of my first cozy mystery authors and I always loved her books and this was a great one too.

My TV shows will start returning next week.  I think I'd rather be reading though.  LOL  I may have to change things up a bit this year.  We will see.

Aside from reading goals, I don't do New Year's resolutions, do you?  I stopped a long time ago since after the first week of the new year, I stop doing them.

I hope you all have a great week and read many great books!

Yvonne

  1. Our holiday was low key too which was so nice! I don't think this was a great reading year for a lot of people. My reading definitely took a hit but I have high hopes for this year. I love the look of Hems and Homicide! Have a great week!

  2. Happy New Year, Yvonne! We had a quiet New Year's as well. Like you, I am completely fine with that. :-) It sounds like you've gotten off to a good start this year. I haven't yet finished a book, but that isn't unusual for me.

Those Hayton covers are so cute!

I hope you enjoy your new books and your upcoming reads.

Have a great week, Yvonne. Happy New Year!

  3. Everyone seems to feel like 2019 was an off year. So many people I've spoken to had trouble meeting their reading goals. I felt like many of my books were disappointing. I have high hopes for the new year.

I'm one of those oddballs who loves making New Year's resolutions. I generally make them small enough to be doable. The one I have the most trouble is Talk less; listen more. So far, I feel like I'm doing well with that one this year.

Enjoy all your reads. You are off to a great start for this year.

  4. Happy New Year. I'm trying to visit some blogs again but our new puppy is making it hard. I'm glad shows are coming back but I have quite a bit in Netflix I want to watch too. I'm on my third book of the year so I hope we both continue on!

  5. Happy New Year! I stopped doing resolutions a while back too, glad to know I'm not the only one haha! Although I do want to get back to reading at least a few cozies this year, I've been slacking. :)

  6. I didn't have a great reading year but there were a few that shined. We also had low-key holidays, no resolutions, I have a few book challenges to do, just for fun.

Isn't it nice to find out that an author you favor has a new series out! Hope you enjoy them.

  7. Happy Reading! I finished last year with 86 and I'm pretty happy with that number :) Love the cover on How Quickly She Disappears - hope the book is just as good.

  9. My goal last year was to read 100 books and I made it to 107. I'm trying for a few more than that this year. I don't make resolutions.

  10. Good luck with your Goodreads goal! I’m also hoping to read more this year. Last year was one of my worst reading years ever.

  11. Happy New Year. This year was a lower reading year for me as well. We are caught up on our DVR'd shows and looking for a series to watch while we wait for them to return. Have a great week.

  12. 87 is great being that you were busy with your big move.

  13. Low key can be fun. Our Christmas was split into two separate days, so that made it easier.

There are so many books on your list I would love. The cover on How Quickly She Disappears is beautiful.

Wishing you a year of great books.

  14. I'm sorry you didn't meet you goal. I've had slow years for reading too. Happy New Year. My weekly update

  15. 2019 was my lowest reading year since I've been keeping records. I'm hoping my 2020 will be better too. Come see my week here and Happy New Year!

  16. Happy New Year! I love the look of your cozies...I always like reading them, and when I settle into a series, I love getting each new one. Julie Mulhern's books are enjoyable, and I also like other cozy authors' books.

I don't do resolutions, either, and didn't do the Goodreads Challenge for a few years. But I signed up for 2020. Maybe that will improve my reading totals. But I just want to enjoy the books I read so that's my goal.

I just looked up How Quickly She Disappears, and now I'm intrigued. I hope you are enjoying it.

  17. Happy New Year! I too had a slower than normal reading year. I didn't know there was a new Kate Collins.

  18. Those cat cozies look so like great reading. I think enjoying our reading is far more important than how many books we read. Happy 2020.

  19. I have How Quickly She Disappears on my TBR list...looking forward to it!

  20. We read the same number of books last year (except it was the most for me in a while!). The Third to Die is coming up on my list too. Hope it's good!
